Spooky in Love is a remake of the 2011 hit film Spellbound, which starred Son Ye-jin and Lee Min-ki. Netflix has confirmed it will stream day-and-date with the tvN broadcast, so international viewers won’t have any delay.

The Story

Cheon Yeo-ri (Park Eun-bin) is the heiress of one of Korea’s top conglomerates and CEO of a luxury hotel, beautiful, wealthy, and seemingly perfect. Her secret: she sees ghosts, haunted every night by the restless spirits of people who died unjustly. Because anyone who touches her ends up seeing ghosts too, she’s spent her life keeping people at a distance.

Ma Gang-uk (Yang Se-jong) is an ace prosecutor with sharp instincts and a strong sense of justice, tirelessly working to solve unsolved murder cases. He’s also, inconveniently, terrified of ghosts. When the two are pushed together, Yeo-ri’s ability to communicate with the dead becomes the missing piece in Gang-uk’s cold cases, and the pair form a chaotic partnership that starts solving supernatural mysteries and, slowly, falling for each other.

Ong Seong-wu joins as Kang Min-hwan, the executive of a rival hotel, rounding out the central trio.

Behind the Scenes: What the Director and Writer Say to Expect

Screenwriter Choi Jung-mi said what drew her to the project was the central irony: a man afraid of ghosts falling for a woman who sees them. Adapting the film into a 12-episode series meant keeping both the romantic tension and the occult suspense alive episode to episode, rather than leaning too far into either. Her biggest addition to the original story is the case-solving partnership between the two leads, which gives the drama a structure beyond a single romance arc.

Director Lee Min-soo said he was drawn to Yeo-ri’s isolation, she acts cold and guarded to keep people from getting too close, and underneath that defense is real loneliness. For him, the emotional core of the drama is watching her slowly let someone in. He’s also said the horror and investigation elements aren’t separate from the romance; they’re the situations that force Yeo-ri and Gang-uk to confront feelings they’d otherwise avoid.

Lee also pointed to the cast’s willingness to fully commit to physical comedy as one of the drama‘s biggest strengths, saying the actors leaned into looking ridiculous rather than staying polished.

Where to Watch

Spooky in Love premieres July 18, 2026 at 9:10 p.m. KST on tvN, airing every Saturday and Sunday through August 23. It streams globally on Netflix the same day it airs in Korea, and on TVING for domestic viewers.

Why It’s Worth Watching

Spooky in Love brings together a well-liked source film, a genre combination that isn’t overdone in current K-drama releases, and three leads who each carry strong existing followings from previous Netflix titles. The occult-investigation structure gives it room to function as more than a straight romance, and Park Eun-bin following up The WONDERfools with another genre-bending lead role makes this one of the more closely watched July premieres.

This preview will be updated with full episode recaps as Spooky in Love airs. Check back after each weekend for new coverage.
