Episode 11 of Spooky in Love is the kind of hour that makes you put your phone down and just stare at the screen for a second after it ends. We finally get confirmation of who killed Ji-hwan, a body drops, a curse gets discussed at a literal shrine, and then the episode closes on a hit-and-run that I genuinely wasn’t ready for. If you’ve been following Gang-uk and Yeo-ri’s rollercoaster of a romance, this is the episode where the show stops teasing and starts paying off.

Yeo-ri Calls Off the Engagement
Spooky in Love Episode 11 opens right where the emotional gut-punch left off: Yeo-ri ends her engagement to Gang-uk, furious that he kept his surgery a secret from her. Gang-uk quickly figures out that Madam Paeng had a hand in pushing Yeo-ri toward this decision, and he’s not happy about it. That night, he comes home to find his mother waiting for him and doesn’t hold back, calling her selfish for interfering in his relationship. Both of them end up crying themselves to sleep, which honestly says a lot about how raw this breakup still is for both sides. Madam Paeng does try to get Gang-uk to meet Hee-won, but backs off once she sees how devastated he is.
Min-hwan’s Power Play on Reina Group
The next morning, Manager Bong drops a bombshell on Yeo-ri: Min-hwan’s CL Group is quietly trying to buy up a majority stake in Reina. Yeo-ri wastes no time confronting him about it face to face, and while she’s at it, she brings up something that’s clearly been eating at her, the necklace. She asks him directly why he took Ji-hwan’s pendant from the paramedic at the accident scene all those years ago. Min-hwan gets visibly rattled and tries to argue his way out of it, but before things go further, a text pulls him away and he rushes off. It’s a small moment, but it’s the first real crack we see in his composure.
Hee-won Finds the Necklace
While all this is happening, Gang-uk finally agrees to have a meal with Hee-won. Meanwhile, over at Min-hwan’s office, Hee-won spots the exact pendant Ji-hwan was wearing the night he died. She immediately texts Min-hwan, who scrambles back to smooth things over with a lie, he claims he’d been searching for the necklace for years so he could give it to her on Ji-hwan’s death anniversary. Hee-won buys it completely and takes the necklace with her.
Later, at lunch with Gang-uk and Madam Paeng, Hee-won learns about Gang-uk’s recent accident and, not knowing the irony of it, hands him the same necklace and asks him to wear it for protection. Outside the restaurant, Min-hwan spots Gang-uk with his mother and notices the necklace box in his hand. That’s when it clicks for him, Gang-uk received Ji-hwan’s heart in his transplant. This is such a well-placed reveal because it means Min-hwan now understands exactly what Gang-uk’s visions and connection to Yeo-ri actually mean.
Gang-uk’s Heartbreak and the Prosecutor’s Office Drama
Back at work, Gang-uk is quietly trying to figure out how to get the pendant to Yeo-ri, but his colleagues Pil-dong and Hyeong-min drag him out for drinks instead. He tries calling Yeo-ri throughout the night, and she ignores every single call. Once he’s home, he sets up a tent to sleep in, mirroring Yeo-ri’s own habit, and breaks down thinking about their relationship. On her end, Yeo-ri is doing the exact same thing, crying over the same breakup. It’s a small parallel, but it works.
The next day brings Yeo-ri into the Prosecutor’s Office for questioning. Pil-dong tries to keep Gang-uk from getting involved since the case belongs to So-hyeon, but Gang-uk pushes anyway, asking So-hyeon to stay impartial. Inside, Yeo-ri and her advocate lay out evidence against her aunt, Ok Gye-hee, tying her to Prosecutor Park Jin-dong, and Yeo-ri flatly refuses to take the fall for the slush fund scandal.
When Yeo-ri leaves and gets swarmed by reporters, Gang-uk shows up, shields her from the cameras, and drives her home, refusing to let her out of the car until they’ve talked. At her place, he shows her the necklace and offers to help trace its origin. She agrees, but only after Gang-uk asks for something in return: permission to stay close to her.
A Whistleblower, a Suicide, and a Closing Investigation
Elsewhere, Sang-ho learns that Gang-uk filed a report against Prosecutor Ok Gye-dong, Gye-hee’s brother, and tries to defend him to Chief Prosecutor Min Jong-seok. But Jong-seok gets pressure from a Senior Secretary and orders the investigation into Gye-dong and Jin-dong tightened. So-hyeon uses Yeo-ri’s evidence to lean on Cheon Gallery’s Associate Director Kim So-hee, who agrees to record a statement against Gye-hee.
Then things take a dark turn, Prosecutor Park Jin-dong dies by suicide once he learns he’s under investigation. Gye-hee panics, calls her brother Gye-dong, and finds out the investigation has since been closed. Gye-dong tells her to play her final card against Yeo-ri. Meanwhile, Seung-jae is released from prison just long enough to attend Jin-dong’s funeral, where he’s visibly bitter that none of his father’s old friends bothered to show up.
The Shaman’s Warning
Back on the Gang-uk and Yeo-ri front, Gang-uk learns from Sang-ho that he’s being transferred and needs to hand off his cases. Hyeong-min, meanwhile, tracks down information on the pendant’s engraving, prompting Gang-uk to invite Yeo-ri to visit the shaman’s shrine where it was made.
The shaman claims her late mother crafted the pendant and, upon touching it, tells Yeo-ri she’s bound to whoever owns it. She accuses Yeo-ri of clinging to someone who has already died, framing the ghost-seeing as a kind of punishment for it, and warns that the only way to break the cycle is for Yeo-ri to sacrifice her own life. Outside the shrine, Yeo-ri admits to Gang-uk that Ji-hwan gave her the necklace instead of wearing it himself, exactly as the shaman intended, and she still blames herself for his death. She asks Gang-uk to hold onto it instead.
Seung-jae’s Discovery and a Murder
The next day, Hee-won tells Min-hwan he’s about to be named heir of CL Group, and he’s thrilled. Meanwhile, Gye-hee keeps working her connections to bring Yeo-ri down. Seung-jae returns home from the funeral and finds an old camcorder in his room containing footage from the yacht party twelve years ago, the night Ji-hwan died. The footage captures Min-hwan and Ji-hwan arguing, and Seung-jae, sensing an opportunity, texts both Min-hwan and Yeo-ri about it. When Yeo-ri calls him back, he admits he plans to use the footage to blackmail someone and tells her to stand by.
Later that night, Gang-uk gets called to investigate a murder, and finds Yeo-ri at the scene holding the weapon, with Seung-jae’s body on the ground. She’s arrested and questioned but won’t say a word to Gang-uk about what happened.
The Truth About Ji-hwan’s Death
A flashback finally reveals what really happened on that yacht twelve years ago. Seung-jae had tried to blackmail Min-hwan with the footage, and we see Min-hwan and Ji-hwan’s argument play out in full. Min-hwan resented that their parents always favored Ji-hwan over him because he was adopted. When Ji-hwan fell overboard, Min-hwan caught his hand at first, then deliberately let go.
In the present, Seung-jae asks Min-hwan to help him leave the country in exchange for staying quiet, threatening to tell Hee-won the truth if he refuses. Min-hwan, cornered and furious, kills him. He then notices a camera recording the whole thing, grabs it, and uses Seung-jae’s phone to lure Yeo-ri to the scene, setting her up to take the fall.
That night, Yeo-ri lies awake thinking about Gang-uk’s transfer and his involvement in the Jin-dong and Gye-dong investigation.
The Cliffhanger: A Hit-and-Run
The next day, Gang-uk investigates the location where Seung-jae’s body was found. At the same time, Ji-hwan’s spirit appears to Yeo-ri for the first time in twelve years. Min-hwan realizes one of his cufflinks is missing from the night before, and Gang-uk, by coincidence, is the one who finds it. Then, as Gang-uk is nearly run over by a truck, Yeo-ri pushes him out of the way just in time to save his life. She isn’t so lucky herself, and the episode ends with her getting hit.
My Take: A Strong Episode Undercut by One Tired Trope
I’ll be honest, everything about this episode was working for me until the truck showed up. Up to that point, Spooky in Love had been building its mystery with real patience, the necklace, the cufflink, the shaman’s warning, Seung-jae’s blackmail scheme, and it all paid off with a genuinely satisfying reveal about Min-hwan’s role in Ji-hwan’s death. We now know for certain he let his adoptive brother fall, and it’s more than likely he’s also behind the truck that nearly hit Gang-uk.
But then the episode leans on one of the most overused devices in K-drama history, and it stings a little. Watching Yeo-ri get run over felt frustrating rather than shocking, mostly because we’ve all seen this exact beat play out in a dozen other shows. Even if she pulls through, which feels likely given where the story still needs to go, it doesn’t make the moment land any better.
What actually kept me hooked was the shaman subplot. She told Yeo-ri that breaking the curse requires a sacrifice of her own life, and getting hit by a car in an act of self-sacrifice for Gang-uk checks that box in a pretty literal way. I also think it’s worth noting that Ji-hwan’s ghost reappearing after twelve years right before this happens isn’t a coincidence. It’s possible he showed himself now specifically because he knew Yeo-ri was about to save the life of the man carrying his own heart, all while Min-hwan’s guilt is finally catching up to him.
If the writers are setting up Seung-jae and Ji-hwan’s spirits working together from beyond to expose Min-hwan, that’s a genuinely compelling direction for the back half of this show. I just hope the finale earns it and doesn’t lean on any more clichés to get there.
