The Story

Park Hae-gang (Ji Sung) is a former boss of the Oasis gang who suddenly needs a massive amount of money to help Yong-man, a father figure from his past. His solution: run for president of his apartment complex’s residents’ representative council, so he can get his hands on the building’s long-term repair reserve fund, a pool of money residents pay into every month for future maintenance and safety work.

What starts as a selfish money grab spirals into something bigger. As Hae-gang clashes with residents and digs deeper into the complex’s finances, he uncovers real corruption buried inside the building’s management. His fight to protect “his money” turns into a fight that ends up protecting his neighbors instead, and he becomes a reluctant local hero in the process.

Screenwriter Kim Yoon-young has said she built the story around a fund most apartment residents pay into every month without fully understanding, the long-term repair reserve fund is real, and in real life it’s protected by strict legal procedures that make it very difficult to steal. The Apartment Job runs with the “what if” version of that fund being vulnerable to exactly the wrong person.

Cast & Characters

The Apartment Job (2026) - Ji Sung K-drama_posters

  • Ji Sung as Park Hae-gang, the former Oasis gang boss turned reluctant residents’ association president. This marks Ji Sung’s first-ever Netflix series, following lead roles in Connection, Doctor John, The Devil Judge, and The Judge Returns.
  • Ha Yoon-kyung as Kang Ha-ri, an ambitious, aspiring lawyer who becomes tangled up in Hae-gang’s scheme. This is Ha Yoon-kyung’s first leading role in a drama.
  • Moon So-ri as Jang Suk-jin, a prominent resident whose early clashes with Hae-gang spark much of the neighborhood friction. Moon So-ri, primarily known for film and serious dramatic roles, has described this as her first major comedic role.
  • Park Byung-eun as Lee Chung-won, another key figure navigating the complex’s internal politics.
  • Supporting cast includes Baek Hyun-jin (reuniting with Ji Sung for the first time since The Devil Judge), Jung Soon-won, Hwang Hee, Kim Won-hae, Jung Seung-kil, Ryu Hyun-kyung, Son Ji-yoon, Jung Yi-rang, and Kim Kyu-won.

Behind the Scenes: What the Writer Says to Expect

Kim Yoon-young has described the drama’s core idea as the “intermittent family”, a play on intermittent fasting, where the residents only act like a family when they need each other, coming together in short, intense bursts rather than as a constant unit. They start out as strangers bound only by circumstance and inconvenience, and slowly become each other’s strongest support system as the story goes on.

She and director Jo Yong-won reportedly held themselves to two rules while making the show: keep the characters grounded in reality even inside a comic, farcical plot, and above all, make sure it’s fun. Kim has said the biggest viewing points are the ensemble cast, Hae-gang’s outrageous solutions to everyday apartment complaints (parking disputes, delivery chaos, and the like), and watching the residents shift from indifference to real solidarity over the course of the story.

Where to Watch

The Apartment Job premieres July 11, 2026 at 10:40 p.m. KST on JTBC, with new episodes airing every Saturday and Sunday. It will also stream on Netflix globally the same day, making it accessible for international viewers from launch.

Why It’s Worth Watching

The premise gives The Apartment Job a rare hook among caper comedies: instead of a heist against a bank or a corporation, the target is something almost every apartment-dwelling viewer recognizes from their own monthly bill. That everyday familiarity, paired with Ji Sung’s first Netflix outing and an ensemble led by three strong, distinct personalities in Ha Yoon-kyung, Moon So-ri, and Park Byung-eun, sets this up as one of the more grounded, character-driven comedies of JTBC’s summer slate.

This preview will be updated with full episode recaps as The Apartment Job airs. Check back after each weekend for new coverage.
