Chairwoman Baek gets word that Yeo-ri is in critical condition, and while she and Gang-uk pray for her recovery, Yeo-ri’s spirit slips away toward the afterlife.
Yeo-ri’s Journey to the Spirit Realm, And Ji-hwan’s Final Sacrifice
Spooky in Love Episode 12 is where the episode earns its title. On her way to the netherworld, Yeo-ri runs into every ghost she’s helped over the years, a nice little callback that reminds you what her ability actually meant to people. She’s about to board the boat that carries souls to the other side when Ji-hwan appears. He tells her she still has plenty to live for, and that all those spirits she helped are rooting for her to go back.
Then comes the gut-punch: Ji-hwan asks Yeo-ri to return to the human world and takes her place on the boat instead, telling her to live a long, happy life. Back among the living, Gang-uk learns something that reframes his entire arc, the heart that saved his life all those years ago came from Ji-hwan. Following Madam Paeng’s advice, Gang-uk visits Ji-hwan’s grave, leaves the necklace there, and thanks him for the sacrifice he made twelve years ago. Relief washes over him when he finally sees Yeo-ri awake at the hospital.
Yeo-ri’s Recovery and the Search for Answers
Once she’s stable, Yeo-ri asks Chairwoman Baek and her team to keep her recovery under wraps. Madam Paeng, for her part, apologizes for trying to keep Yeo-ri and Gang-uk apart and wishes them well, a small but satisfying resolution to that thread. Meanwhile, Gye-hee, Ha-ri, and Dong-jun show up at the hospital to try to make amends, though they’re too embarrassed to actually face Chairwoman Baek and end up hiding from her instead.
A few days later, Yeo-ri is back home with Gang-uk looking after her, and the mystery-solving kicks into gear again. Gang-uk mentions his missing bag from Seung-jae’s murder scene, and Yeo-ri connects it to the yacht incident, theorizing that Seung-jae knew more than he let on. They trace his movements and land on a lead: his childhood home. One evening, while Gang-uk is out at dinner with Pil-dong and Heung-min ahead of his transfer, he calls to check on Yeo-ri, and she lies about where she is. She’s actually headed to Seung-jae’s old house. In a twist that feels almost too convenient, Gang-uk shows up at the same place, and together they find a spare copy of the camcorder video that’s been at the center of everything.
How Yeo-ri Exposes Min-hwan at the Memorial Service
While all that’s unfolding, Min-hwan is busy organizing a memorial service for Ji-hwan, using the event to win over Hee-won and cement his new position as Chairman of CL Group. Ha-ri and Gye-hee show up to the service, where Min-hwan greets them with unsettling enthusiasm. He delivers a heartfelt speech for his late brother, and just as Hee-won is about to announce his appointment as Chairman, Yeo-ri crashes the moment.
She plays the video for the entire room, revealing exactly how Min-hwan let Ji-hwan drown at the yacht party. Hee-won is devastated. She demands the footage be investigated and tells Min-hwan to stay out of sight until it’s verified. That’s when Min-hwan finally cracks, lashing out at Yeo-ri and blaming his miserable life on the fact that everyone always favored Ji-hwan over him because he was adopted. It’s a weak excuse, and Yeo-ri isn’t having it, she reminds him flatly that he murdered Ji-hwan and Seung-jae, and that his actions nearly killed her and Gang-uk too.
Min-hwan’s Arrest and Gye-hee’s Downfall
Right on cue, Gang-uk arrives with the police to arrest Min-hwan. The footage recovered from Seung-jae’s house gives Gang-uk enough grounds for a search warrant, and they turn up CCTV evidence that confirms Min-hwan’s guilt in Seung-jae’s murder. He’s taken into custody on the spot. At the same time, across town, Seo-hyeon raids Gye-hee’s house as part of the investigation into the Cheon Art Gallery slush fund. Gye-hee is arrested too, closing out that storyline in one tidy sweep.
The Ending Explained: Where Everyone Lands a Year Later
Spooky in Love Episode 12 jumps forward a year to tie up loose ends. Hee-won visits Min-hwan in prison and urges him to atone for what he’s done. He breaks down and apologizes to his mother, finally acknowledging that despite how everyone else treated him, Hee-won never gave up on him. With Gye-hee behind bars, Ha-ri has had to rebuild from nothing and now works as a receptionist at Reina Hotel, while Dong-jun keeps a low profile on probation. When the siblings visit their mother in prison, Gye-hee tells them to show proper respect to Reina’s new Chairwoman, Yeo-ri.
Gang-uk, meanwhile, tells Yeo-ri he’s being transferred back to Seoul. Once the move happens, he tells Sang-ho about his promotion and promises to keep doing his job by the book. Back at Reina, Chairwoman Baek officially hands the reins over to Yeo-ri and retires, with her team celebrating the new Chairwoman. And in a lovely final touch, Yeo-ri’s condition is fully resolved, she can touch people without fear now. The series closes on Yeo-ri and Gang-uk walking hand-in-hand outside Seina Hall, finally together the way they always meant to be.
Review: A Promising Ghost Story That Lost Its Nerve
Here’s my honest take: this was a half-baked story that had genuine potential, and it got buried under an avalanche of clichés it never needed. The most frustrating part is how the show treated its own core concept, the ghost angle, the very thing that made Spooky in Love stand out in the first place, gets quietly abandoned somewhere in the middle and never really comes back. For a drama built entirely around a woman who can see and help spirits, that’s a strange thing to sideline.
Min-hwan’s arc is where I struggled the most. Watching him shift from second lead to full-blown antagonist wasn’t necessarily the problem, plenty of dramas pull that off well. The issue is that once he’s written as a murderer who let his own brother drown, giving him a redemption arc where Hee-won forgives him just doesn’t sit right. It feels unearned, and honestly a little uncomfortable given the severity of what he did. I also can’t stop thinking about the logic gap around his motives: if his endgame was always to become Chairman of CL Group, what was the actual point of him scheming to acquire Reina Group’s shares? That thread gets dropped almost as fast as it’s introduced, and we don’t even get real clarity on his motivations until the final two episodes, which is far too late for a payoff that size.
My biggest wish for this show is that it had spent more time on Yeo-ri’s backstory. We never learn what happened to her parents, and given that her whole ability seems tied to the spirit world, it would’ve meant a lot to see her connection to that world rooted in her own family history as a child. That missing piece leaves her character feeling a bit thinner than it should, especially by the finale.
To be fair, most of the season was genuinely fun to watch, and there’s a warmth to Gang-uk and Yeo-ri’s relationship that carries the show even when the plot wobbles. But the final two episodes lean so hard into convenient twists and rushed reveals that they undercut a lot of the goodwill built up over the previous six weeks. It’s not a bad ending, exactly, it’s just a rushed one, and Spooky in Love deserved a finale with a little more patience.
