Sterling Point Season 1 Episode 6 throwing Annie into the deep end. She wakes up at Rory’s place, and the reality of what happened the night before hits her instantly. She’d slept with him while drunk, and now she’s scrambling to get dressed and get out before anyone notices. That plan falls apart fast when Ellis shows up on the island with her father in tow. It’s mortifying timing, and Annie doesn’t even try to smooth it over in the moment. Instead, she rushes off the island entirely and decides the conversation with her dad can wait until dinner.
Annie and Ramona’s Heart-to-Heart
Back at Gordon’s place, Annie is still visibly rattled by what happened. Ramona steps in with some much-needed comfort, though she’s genuinely caught off guard when Annie admits she and Rory slept together. Annie tries to explain herself, pointing out that this kind of spontaneity isn’t really her thing (aside from, you know, uprooting her life to come to Sterling Point in the first place). As the sisters talk it through, Annie realizes something unsettling: she’s not actually sure whether a condom was used.
Ramona, meanwhile, has her own relationship developments brewing. She didn’t sleep with Oona, but the two of them have clearly hit it off. In a more vulnerable moment, Ramona confides that she’s insecure about her breast size. Oona doesn’t let that sit for long, though, reassuring her and making it clear just how attracted she is to her.
Steven Finally Comes Clean
This episode’s emotional core belongs to Steven, who finally sits the kids down to address the massive secret hanging over all of them: the island. He explains that he kept it hidden because he wanted to protect the memory the kids had of their mother. He never wanted them growing up believing she’d cheated on him.
From there, the backstory unfolds. Steven and Goldie spent almost six years trying to conceive, including a rough stretch of IVF that never worked out. The strain eventually pushed them into a separation, though it was meant to be temporary. It was during that time apart that they got the call about the twins, but by then Goldie had decided she no longer wanted to live in New York. Steven says he tried giving her the space to work through her unhappiness, but it only ended up driving them further apart.
Here’s the part that really recontextualizes things: Steven didn’t file for divorce. Annie did. And when it came to bringing the twins back home, she refused. So Steven, in his telling, only did what was necessary to honor the custody agreement they’d already set. Annie doesn’t take this well at all. She lashes out at her father and, in the heat of it, throws Ramona’s paternity in his face, using it to justify her mother’s affair. It’s an ugly, messy exchange, and things end up worse between them than before.
Maple’s Period Crown and a Rare Moment of Joy
Amid all the heaviness, the show gives us a genuinely sweet detour. The group heads to Summer Camp to pick up Maple, who casually mentions she’s gotten her first period. Oona doesn’t let the moment pass quietly, gifting her a “period crown” to mark the occasion. Maple tries to play it cool and act like it’s no big deal, but Annie and the rest of the group aren’t having it. The scene turns into a genuinely fun bit of chaos, with everyone dancing around a fire and howling into the night to celebrate her.
Ellis and Annie’s Almost-Moment
Ellis catches up with Annie later, and the tension between them is immediate and awkward. Annie clarifies she isn’t actually dating Rory, then puts Ellis on the spot by asking whether he actually cares about her. His response is a smooth one-liner about not being able to think of a single thing about her he dislikes. It’s charming, and there’s clearly a spark in the air, but Ellis doesn’t act on it.
Steven and Joe Come to Blows
Steven tracks Joe down on the dock, and their conversation turns confrontational fast. Steven dismisses Joe and the island as nothing more than a distraction, but Joe isn’t having it, reminding him that he showed up in the middle of the night with a lawyer specifically to take the kids back. Joe goes further, telling Steven that Goldie never loved him, and that he’s not even sure she ever did. Words escalate into a physical altercation, and Steven walks away with a black eye for his trouble. He ends up at Denise’s afterward. Worth noting: Denise isn’t exactly a neutral party here. She has her own designs on claiming the island for herself.
Annie Opens Up About Her Childhood
In a quieter, more introspective scene, Annie reflects on her own experience getting her first period. She tells Ellis how she used to schedule a doctor’s visit every year on her birthday because she thought that’s just what you were supposed to do. She admits she feels like her childhood was taken from her, and that she needs to be “fixed.” Ellis doesn’t try to talk her out of the feeling, but he does gently push back on the idea that she needs fixing at all. The two end up lying under the stars together, with Ellis walking her through how to build a canoe as a way to quiet her spiraling thoughts.
The next morning, Joe’s wife discovers a guardianship letter connected to Ramona and confronts him about it immediately. She’s furious, and rightfully questions what kind of man he really is.
Back at Gordon’s, Everything Falls Apart
There’s a genuinely tender moment where Annie and Ramona finally seem to find common ground, riding back to Gordon’s together on the boat. That peace is short-lived. The second they step inside the house, they’re ambushed by Denise, Steven, and Connor waiting for them. Steven doesn’t hold back, revealing Joe is Ramona’s biological father and demanding that Ramona and her group leave the property. Ramona is blindsided, and she turns her anger on Annie specifically, reminding her that they’d promised each other no more secrets. Oona curses everyone out on her way out the door, and Ramona has officially reached her breaking point.
Is Sterling Point Losing Its Grip? Episode 6 Review
Sterling Point returns with another lengthy episode, and unfortunately, it drags its heels through a lot of the drama it’s trying to sell us. I’ve said this before this season, but the show is seriously missing the punch it needs to make its biggest dramatic swings actually land. There’s a lackadaisical quality to how everything unfolds here, where moments that should hit hard instead get skimmed over on the surface.
So much of the early season leaned on the tension between Ramona and Annie, and that thread feels like it’s been shoved aside in favor of subplots that don’t actually push the story forward. Worse, some of the most dramatically loaded moments just get dropped entirely and never mentioned again. Annie’s uncertainty over whether she and Rory used protection is a perfect example. That’s a huge, anxiety-inducing revelation for a character, and the show barely blinks before moving on.
The dialogue keeps reaching for this quirky, offbeat rhythm, but outside of the explosive confrontation at the end of the episode, there’s not much here to sink your teeth into. The love triangle angle barely registers as a triangle at this point, and there’s just no real tension simmering between the group anymore. And I’d be remiss not to mention Connor, whose character growth seems to have stalled out completely after what looked like genuine progress in the last episode.
With only two episodes left in the season, Sterling Point has some work to do if it wants to stick the landing. The pieces for real drama are all there: the island inheritance, the guardianship reveal, Steven and Joe’s history, Annie and Ramona’s fractured trust. What the show needs now is the nerve to actually let these moments breathe instead of rushing past them.
