After five episodes of watching him grasp at shadows, this hour hands him a name, an address, and a fight that leaves the whole cast bloodied and the mystery blown wide open. Here’s everything that happened, plus my take on why some of these character choices made me want to yell at my screen.
A Warning Sign From the Past
The episode opens on a flashback from a few years back. Su-hyeong is picking his wife up after class, and on the drive home, the couple crosses paths with the kidnapper, who’s driving recklessly. Su-hyeong calls him out for it, a small moment of decency that means nothing to him at the time. What he doesn’t clock is that the kidnapper snaps a photo of his license plate in that exact moment. It’s the kind of quiet detail that recontextualizes everything once you know how this story unfolds.
Back in the present, we return to the aftermath of Su-hyeong’s murder. The kidnapper drives home fuming, furious that Tae-ju tried to outmaneuver him again.
Tae-ju Breaks Into the Hospital Records
Meanwhile, Tae-ju sneaks back into the hospital and slips into Se-yun’s office to dig through patient files. He doesn’t take long to find what he’s after: the kidnapper’s name and home address, pulled from a memory of treating a patient called Heo Jae-il for neurogenic claudication. During that treatment, the man had lost a shirt button in Tae-ju’s office, a detail that apparently stuck with him.
But he’s not alone for long. A guard spots him on the surveillance cameras and calls it in, and police show up about ten minutes later. They corner him on the second floor, and just when it looks like he’s out of options, Myung-hee steps in. She hides him in her office and helps him slip away through a secret entrance. By the time Chi-ung helps the police piece together how he vanished, Tae-ju is already gone.
Se-yun’s Escape Turns Into a Trap
While all that’s unfolding at the hospital, Se-yun manages to break free and runs into the forest. The kidnapper gives chase, but his condition slows him down enough that she reaches the main road. A car pulls up, and a woman offers to drive her straight to the nearest police station.
Except she isn’t the rescuer she appears to be. Once Se-yun is in the car, the woman fakes dropping her phone to distract her, then pulls on a mask and sprays her with a sleeping drug. It’s a gut-punch of a twist, the kind of scene that makes you angry on the character’s behalf.
Dong-chan Starts Asking Questions
Back at the hospital, Dong-chan isn’t hiding his frustration with how the police have handled the manhunt for Tae-ju. Detective Do-sik, in turn, starts wondering out loud whether Dong-chan is holding something back about what’s really going on inside that hospital. Nothing gets resolved in this exchange, but the suspicion hangs in the air, and the police reassure him they’ll bring Tae-ju in.
The Big Reveal: Seon-ja Is Kyeong-ae, and She’s No Victim
Se-yun wakes up tied to a chair with the kidnapper looming over her, and he starts strangling her. Just as things look dire, his wife walks in. Here’s the twist: this is the same woman from the car, and she’s also Seon-ja, the “fellow kidnapped victim” who’d been talking to Se-yun during her captivity earlier in the series. Her real name is Kyeong-ae, and she and her husband have been playing a cruel game with their victims from the start.
They tell Se-yun they were hired by her own husband, Tae-ju. She refuses to believe it at first, until they show her a video of a drunk Tae-ju saying he wants to get rid of her. It’s a devastating moment for Se-yun, and it recasts a lot of what we thought we understood about the couple’s marriage.
Tae-ju Tracks Down the Real Kidnapper
Elsewhere, Tae-ju arrives at the address for “Heo Jae-il” and discovers that’s not even his real identity. It was stolen. Digging through the house, he finds documents and photos that lead him to the kidnapper’s actual name: Noh Man-hui.
He follows that lead to Man-hui’s real address, and on the drive over, he loses himself in memories of happier times with Se-yun as a couple. Back at the house, Man-hui and Kyeong-ae are having an unsettlingly normal breakfast, casually chatting about cleaning out the basement, seemingly unbothered by anything happening around them.
A Standoff, a Fight, and a Getaway Gone Wrong
Once Tae-ju arrives, he texts photos of Man-hui’s documents to a contact before heading inside, where he finds Kyeong-ae alone. He holds her at gunpoint. She tries to play innocent, but he calls Man-hui directly, threatens to kill his wife, and fires a warning shot to prove he means it. He demands to know where Se-yun is being held.
Man-hui, in tears, begs for his wife’s life and promises to rush home. While waiting, Tae-ju ties Kyeong-ae to a chair and searches the basement, where he finally finds Se-yun. She hesitates to trust him at first, and he has to convince her that he never asked Man-hui or Kyeong-ae to hurt her.
The two of them make their way back upstairs, only to find that Kyeong-ae has slipped free. Man-hui ambushes Tae-ju, and a brutal fight breaks out. Se-yun jumps in to help, and Kyeong-ae joins the chaos too, with both women scrambling to reach the gun. In the scuffle, Kyeong-ae falls against a chair and injures her back, and Se-yun and Tae-ju use the opening to make a run for their car.
But the escape doesn’t go smoothly. Kyeong-ae orders Man-hui to grab the gun and chase them down. He fires at their car as they flee, then rams into them with his own vehicle, running them off the road. Tae-ju is the first to come to, trying to rouse Se-yun. Right as she wakes up, she spots Man-hui behind him, raising a shovel. She tries to scream a warning, but it’s too late. Tae-ju gets knocked out cold, and the episode ends on that cliffhanger.
The Husband Episode 6 Review: A Breakthrough Undercut by Baffling Decisions
This episode had my blood pressure climbing right along with the characters’. After watching Tae-ju flail for five straight episodes with barely any leads, it was genuinely satisfying to see him finally get the kidnapper’s real identity and a fighting chance to do something with it.
That said, the relief didn’t last long, because Tae-ju and Se-yun make some baffling choices once they actually have the upper hand. Who leaves a loaded gun sitting around during a fight when the person you’re up against is still alive and conscious? That alone undid a lot of the tension the episode had built up to that point.
Then there’s the decision to call Man-hui before Tae-ju had even fully secured the house or restrained Kyeong-ae. It’s hard not to wonder why he didn’t just bring her down to the basement with him, finish searching the property, and make that call once everything was actually under control. And I have to bring up Se-yun’s choice to stop and confront Tae-ju in that moment instead of just running while she had the chance. It’s an understandable emotional beat, sure, but from a pure survival-instinct standpoint, it didn’t track for me.
The Kyeong-ae reveal, though, is the real standout of the hour. Finding out she’s not just complicit but possibly the one actually calling the shots is a genuinely mind-blowing twist. She and Man-hui come across as a warm, loving couple with real chemistry, right up until you remember they’re both killers running a long con on their victims. That contrast is what makes this pairing so unsettling, and so compelling to watch.
I’m still side-eyeing Dong-chan and Chi-ung, too. Something is clearly happening inside that hospital, and I have a hunch it’s tied to the reason all of this is unfolding in the first place. The real question heading into future episodes: if that theory holds up, where exactly do Su-hyeong and the real Heo Jae-il fit into this puzzle?
