The finale of The Husband wraps up with a hospital stabbing, a last-minute confession, and a surgery that decides more than one life. Episode 12 throws Man-hui, Chi-ung, Tae-ju, and Se-yun into one chaotic collision course, and by the end, almost everyone’s fate gets settled, for better or worse. Here’s exactly how it all goes down, plus my honest take on whether this ending actually earns its dramatic weight.
Man-hui and Chi-ung Corner Tae-ju for Answers
The Husband Episode 12 kicks off with Man-hui and Chi-ung pressuring Tae-ju to give up Gyeong-ae’s location. He resists at first, but he eventually caves and agrees to lead them to her. During the car ride, Tae-ju tries one more time to get through to Man-hui, warning him flat out that Chi-ung can’t be trusted. Man-hui isn’t naive about this, he already knows exactly what kind of man he’s dealing with. He’s simply running a cold calculation in his head, and the only variable that actually matters to him is his wife’s survival.
Once the group reaches Gyeong-ae, Man-hui makes his move, and it’s not the one Chi-ung expects. He turns on Chi-ung completely, catching him off guard. Chi-ung, it turns out, had every intention of killing Tae-ju the moment he’d served his purpose and led them to Gyeong-ae. That plan collapses fast.
Tae-ju ends up saving Chi-ung’s life in the scramble, which buys Chi-ung just enough time to slip away. We also learn here that Myeong-hui had already tipped off Man-hui about Chi-ung’s surgical track record, specifically, that he didn’t have the skill to pull off Gyeong-ae’s operation successfully. That detail changes everything about what Man-hui does next.
Gyeong-ae’s Life Hangs in the Balance
Gyeong-ae’s condition takes a sharp turn for the worse. She’s suddenly hit with severe back pain and loses all feeling in her legs. Tae-ju sees his opening and strikes a deal with Man-hui on the spot: he’ll take her case and save her life, but only if Man-hui agrees to turn himself in afterward. Man-hui doesn’t hesitate, he agrees, insisting he’s got plenty of evidence stacked against Chi-ung anyway.
From there, things move fast. Tae-ju calls Dong-chan to get emergency surgery prepped, and once they arrive at the hospital, the operation begins with Man-hui watching from the sidelines. At the most critical point in the surgery, Tae-ju stops and demands that Man-hui send the evidence to Detective Do-sik before he’ll continue. It’s a tense standoff dressed up as a medical procedure.
While all this is happening, Myeong-hui is already at the police station, telling Do-sik’s team everything she knows. That confession sets the police on Chi-ung’s trail, who by this point has stolen a car and is on the run.
Se-yun’s Hospital Visit Turns Violent
Se-yun doesn’t listen to Tae-ju’s request that she stay home with her parents. Instead, she shows up at the hospital, and walks straight into Chi-ung, who wastes no time blaming her for dragging Tae-ju into their mess in the first place.
What happens next is the episode’s most brutal sequence. Chi-ung goes after Se-yun with a knife, and she fights back hard, trying desperately to get away. He catches up to her anyway and stabs her in the back. The police show up right as this chaos is unfolding. Chi-ung tries to push past everyone to get inside and finish off Tae-ju, but Se-yun, badly wounded, pulls the knife out of her own back and stabs him in the foot to stop him.
Back in surgery, Gyeong-ae pulls through. Tae-ju delivers the news to Man-hui, who reacts in the worst possible way: he tries to kill himself right there to avoid facing consequences. Tae-ju physically intervenes, injuring his own hand while wrestling the knife away from him. The police arrive in the middle of the struggle and arrest Man-hui on the spot. Moments later, word reaches Tae-ju that Se-yun is seriously hurt, and he rushes off to operate on her himself.
How Does The Husband End?
The news picks up the story afterward, reporting that Chi-ung is denying every charge against him, while Man-hui has handed the police all the evidence he promised. Man-hui, for his part, takes full responsibility and shields Gyeong-ae until the very end, insisting to everyone that she was just an innocent bystander with no idea what he was doing behind the scenes.
Dong-chan turns himself in voluntarily as well. Later, the police contact Se-yun and show her the unedited footage of the conversation between Tae-ju and Man-hui, the real one. It reveals that Tae-ju had actually wanted her to accept the divorce for her own sake, not out of coldness. Se-yun breaks down in tears watching it, and the two of them mutually agree to go through with the divorce after all.
After recovering from surgery on his injured arm, Tae-ju starts over and opens his own neurosurgery clinic. The injury means he can no longer operate himself, which is its own quiet tragedy for a man defined by his hands. Among his patients, we see the nurse and her grandmother again, a small, welcome confirmation that Man-hui never went through with killing the old woman.
The show closes on Se-yun and Tae-ju running into each other, seemingly by chance, on the anniversary of their daughter’s death. He asks if he can walk with her. She says yes.
My Honest Take: A Finale That Solves Its Own Problems Too Late
After how messy this show got, I’ll admit I was mostly just relieved to see it end. But relief isn’t the same as satisfaction, and this finale, unfortunately, delivers plenty of the former and very little of the latter. Even the climax felt underwhelming and, frankly, a little illogical when you sit with it. The police are basically decorative for the entire runtime, showing up right on cue for the arrest, sure, but contributing nothing to actually solving the case. Tae-ju cracks this thing open almost entirely on his own, which says more about the writing’s shortcuts than it does about his genius.
The bigger issue for me, though, is the central relationship. Se-yun and Tae-ju just never had chemistry, and that gap made it genuinely hard to invest in their love story, or even care whether they stayed married or split up by the end. I kept waiting for a scene to change my mind. It never came.
Here’s the twist I didn’t expect to feel: Man-hui and Gyeong-ae, chaotic and morally messy as they were, ended up being the most convincing couple in the entire show. Say what you want about his methods, but that man treated “ride-or-die” as a literal job description, not just a phrase. There’s something almost admirable in how far he was willing to go, even when it was clearly, deeply wrong.
At the end of the day, this drama had everything going for it on paper, a stacked cast, a genuinely gripping thriller setup, all the right ingredients. And it still couldn’t stick the landing. It reminds me of watching a talented chef plate up raw chicken and serve it with total confidence anyway. The skill was there. The execution just wasn’t.
