Episode 9 of The Husband picks up right where the tension left off, opening with flashbacks that retrace everything Tae-ju endured to track down and rescue his wife. It’s a smart structural choice that resets the stakes before diving into a genuinely chaotic hour of television.
Man-hui Gets His Marching Orders
The Husband Episode 9 wastes no time. Man-hui receives a text telling him to proceed as planned, and it’s clear the person sending it is holding onto the money Tae-ju stole from his in-laws. This single message sets the entire episode’s body count in motion, and by the end of the hour, you’ll understand just how far Man-hui is willing to go to see this through.
The Police Investigate Doctor Ha’s Murder
Over at the crime scene, police are combing through Doctor Ha’s death when Dong-chan shows up acting bewildered about the whole thing. Tae-ju isn’t buying it for a second and tells the police flat out that Dong-chan knows more than he’s letting on. Dong-chan insists he never actually met with Doctor Ha as planned, and once the police pull the CCTV footage, it backs up both his and Tae-ju’s stories.
What the footage does reveal, though, is that Doctor Ha was last seen riding the elevator with Myung-hee. When they question her, she gives them nothing useful beyond noting that the doctor seemed troubled and wouldn’t say why. Digging further, the police uncover that Doctor Ha had actually been in contact with Gyeong-ae on the very day Se-yun was kidnapped, which is the kind of detail that should make your stomach drop a little.
Tae-ju is brought in to fill in the gaps. He tells the police about his suspicions surrounding Doctor Ha, including the moment he caught the doctor attempting to kill Gyeong-ae right after her surgery. Doctor Ha reportedly claimed he was following someone’s orders, but he never named who. That loose thread is infuriating, honestly, because it’s exactly the kind of answer this show keeps dangling and yanking away.
Gyeong-ae Speaks Out From Her Hospital Bed
Back at the hospital, Chi-ung tries to buy Gyeong-ae some recovery time before the police start grilling her. She doesn’t wait for permission, though, she blurts out that she and her husband were nothing more than pawns in Doctor Ha’s game. Meanwhile, the hospital staff can’t stop gossiping about the unfolding cases, and the nurse who’s been feeding information to Man-hui keeps him updated on every development.
Detective Do-sik pays Tae-ju a visit at home and apologizes to him, hoping this olive branch will get Tae-ju to open up about his suspicions. Tae-ju stays guarded, likely trying to protect both the hospital’s reputation and his father-in-law’s name. It’s a frustrating moment of restraint from a character who has every reason to just let it all out.
The Clinical Trial Cover-Up Deepens
Here’s where things get messier: it turns out Dong-chan once met with Gyeong-ae and Man-hui back when they first applied for the clinical trial. Now he’s scrambling to cover his tracks by trying to install Chi-ung as Gyeong-ae’s doctor. Tae-ju shuts that down immediately and insists on handling her case himself.
He tells Gyeong-ae about the attempt on her life and about Doctor Ha’s death, and she admits she felt slighted after being kicked out of the clinical trial because of her criminal record. Armed with this, Tae-ju turns to Se-yun and asks her to dig into her father’s clinical trial records. Se-yun, understandably, feels hurt that Tae-ju is still shutting her out while confiding more in Myung-hee, and Myung-hee, predictably, uses that hurt to try to drive a deeper wedge between the couple.
Despite everything, Se-yun chooses to trust Tae-ju. She sneaks into her father’s home office and photographs every clinical trial patient record she can find. It’s a small act of quiet courage that stands out in an episode otherwise full of characters making baffling choices.
Man-hui Closes In
While Se-yun is playing detective, Man-hui kills another person and heads back to the hospital, determined to finish what he started with her. The nurse hands him everything he needs, and in exchange, Man-hui promises to release her grandmother later that day.
That night, Tae-ju finally reviews the records Se-yun handed over and realizes the clinical trial only benefited patients who donated money to the hospital. He breaks this news to Gyeong-ae, confirming the corruption she’d already suspected.
At the same time, Do-sik rewatches the elevator footage and presses Myung-hee again. He still can’t pin anything concrete on her connecting her to Doctor Ha’s murder, but it’s becoming obvious she’s pulling strings somewhere in the background.
A Hammer, a Parking Garage, and a Cliffhanger
After his conversation with Gyeong-ae, Tae-ju gets a call from the police, they’ve finally tracked Man-hui’s car to the hospital, and they warn him that both he and Se-yun could be in danger. Tae-ju tries frantically to reach her, but Se-yun is already alone in the parking garage, walking toward her car.
That’s when she sees him. Man-hui, standing there with a bloody hammer, tells her to stand still as she stumbles backward in terror. The episode ends right as he raises the hammer, ready to strike, leaving us hanging on one of the more brutal cliffhangers this show has delivered.
The Episode Review: Is Anyone in This Show Making Good Decisions?
At this point, I have to say it: the writers seem to be rage-baiting the audience with how illogical this sequence of events has become. Who survives a kidnapping and a near-death experience and then just goes right back to their normal routine like nothing happened? It genuinely stretches belief past its limit.
Se-yun strolling around the hospital without a shred of concern for her own safety, while the person who kidnapped her is still on the loose, is the kind of decision that made me want to shout at my screen. And Tae-ju isn’t much better. He’s back at work playing both doctor and amateur detective while the actual police seem to be going in circles, confused and one step behind at every turn. Watching competent-seeming characters make such careless choices episode after episode is genuinely frustrating, and it undercuts some of the tension the show has worked hard to build.
Then there’s Man-hui, who is actively on a killing spree, and somehow it takes the police days to track down his car. With only three episodes left before the finale, we’re still nowhere close to understanding who’s actually pulling the strings behind all this. Is Myung-hee the true mastermind, or is she just Dong-chan’s second-in-command? What exactly is Chi-ung up to, and why does he keep acting so suspiciously? These are the questions that should be tightening the plot at this stage, not leaving it looser than ever.
I won’t pretend there’s much left to salvage here narratively. But there’s a small comfort in knowing we’re only three episodes away from finally getting some answers, for better or worse.
