Episode 6 of Spooky in Love is where the show stops circling and finally lets its leads crash into each other, literally and emotionally. We get an accidental kiss, a devastating hospital scene, a 300-year-old cold case that keeps getting stranger, and an engagement announcement that nobody in the room actually expected. Yeo-ri and Gang-uk Team Up to Solve Hwagyeongdang’s Murder
Spooky in Love Episode 6 opens with Yeo-ri asking Gang-uk to formally team up with her to crack the 300-year-old case that’s been haunting both the art gallery and, increasingly, their own lives. They lay down ground rules before diving in. Gang-uk insists they can’t keep secrets from each other going forward, and that from here on out they investigate together rather than separately, mostly because separate investigating is how people keep ending up in danger. Yeo-ri, for her part, asks that they keep a physical distance between them so she doesn’t accidentally pass her condition on to him. It’s a small detail, but it tells you everything about how she sees herself right now: as a liability to the person she’s growing closer to.
Once the ground rules are set, the actual case-cracking begins in earnest. Yeo-ri reveals that Director Hwa-young is a descendant of Prince Gangpyeong, and that the ghost haunting the art gallery is a Joseon-era painter named Dowon. According to Dowon, Hwagyeongdang was his lover, but Prince Gangpyeong was infatuated with her too. The prince had Dowon beaten and lashed, and Hwagyeongdang agreed to marry the prince purely to save Dowon’s life. It’s a brutal, one-sided arrangement dressed up as romance, and it only gets darker from there.
One night, Prince Gangpyeong caught Hwagyeongdang trying to flee and killed her right in front of Dowon. He then staged his own disappearance from the kingdom to cover his tracks while secretly burying her body. Gang-uk, being the skeptic he is, questions whether Dowon’s account can even be trusted, since ghosts aren’t exactly known for objective testimony. Yeo-ri suggests they verify it independently by speaking with the prince’s living descendants, who apparently still hold onto paintings from that era.
That lead pays off. Gang-uk compares the old paintings and finds a second poem dedicated to Hwagyeongdang, one that he concludes was written by Dowon rather than Prince Gangpyeong, which directly contradicts what Director Hwa-young has believed all along. The stakes of this discovery become clear fast: the only way to free Dowon’s spirit is to locate Hwagyeongdang’s remains and bury them beside his.
Gye-hee Grows Suspicious as Reina Hotel’s Money Trail Resurfaces
While Yeo-ri chases down the historical mystery, the present-day corporate intrigue keeps simmering underneath it. Gye-hee meets with Director Hwa-young to talk artwork, and the timing couldn’t be worse for her peace of mind, because Yeo-ri calls the museum director mid-meeting. Gye-hee immediately grows suspicious of what Yeo-ri is really after and starts to worry about how close she’s getting to Hwa-young.
Yeo-ri later tells Gang-uk about her planned meeting with Hwa-young, and he insists on tagging along, then throws out the idea of a “team dinner” afterward, which is about as subtle as this man gets. During their conversation, Gang-uk brings up the paintings Reina Hotel purchased through Cheon Gallery. Yeo-ri explains that Gye-hee is the one who acquires the artwork and then sells it to the hotel through her own gallery, a detail that starts connecting some very inconvenient dots. When Gang-uk mentions that So-hyeon is already investigating Reina Hotel, Yeo-ri decides to verify the purchase records herself. She quietly asks Manager Bong Ji-wook to compile a full report on every painting bought through Cheon Gallery, and tells him to keep it under wraps.
Meanwhile, at the prosecutor’s office, Gang-uk presses So-hyeon on the money-laundering case tied to Reina Hotel. She reveals that Chief Prosecutor Ok has taken the investigation over, and that the laundered money has already been moved elsewhere. She also can’t help but notice how invested Gang-uk suddenly is in anything related to Reina, and she’s not wrong to notice.
A Family Connection, a Jealous Dinner, and an Accidental Kiss
Yeo-ri’s meeting with Hwa-young comes up mostly empty. Hwa-young insists she’s already shared everything she knows about Hwagyeongdang’s remains, though she does point Yeo-ri toward the Yeeon Archive for more on Prince Gangpyeong. Then Min-hwan shows up to meet Hwa-young, catching Yeo-ri completely off guard. He explains that Hwa-young is actually a friend of his mother’s, which is its own small bombshell about how tangled these families really are. Before leaving, Min-hwan gives Yeo-ri a pair of gloves, a quiet, thoughtful gesture that clearly gets to her.
Outside the museum, Gang-uk runs into So-hyeon and puts together that the laundered money is connected to the Yeeon Museum of Art. Not long after, the two of them bump into Yeo-ri and Min-hwan, and after some awkward small talk, So-hyeon suggests they all grab dinner together. What follows is a masterclass in unspoken jealousy: Gang-uk can’t hide his irritation watching Yeo-ri and Min-hwan together, while Yeo-ri quietly envies the easy bond between Gang-uk and So-hyeon. At one point Gang-uk physically stops So-hyeon from accidentally touching Yeo-ri, a protective instinct that Min-hwan reads as something far more romantic than it was meant to be.
After dinner wraps, Gang-uk tells So-hyeon he’ll grab a cab home, and Yeo-ri sends Min-hwan off, saying she wants to walk alone. Gang-uk follows her anyway, using the case as his excuse to keep talking. Yeo-ri is clearly still stung that he spent most of the night looking after So-hyeon. Then, out of nowhere, Gang-uk yanks Yeo-ri out of the path of a passing motorcycle, and the momentum sends them into an accidental kiss.
Both of them are visibly flustered. Yeo-ri’s first instinct isn’t romantic at all, it’s fear, because now she’s terrified the contact might trigger Gang-uk’s ghost-seeing ability again. She tells him to call her the second anything happens. Once he’s home, Gang-uk confirms he still can’t see any ghosts, and a relieved Yeo-ri ends the call fast. Later that night she calls him back and suggests they end their partnership altogether. Gang-uk refuses and reassures her he’ll be fine. Neither of them sleeps well, both replaying that kiss in their heads.
Chairwoman Baek Collapses and Demands an Engagement
The next morning, Gang-uk texts Yeo-ri to confirm, again, that he hasn’t seen any ghosts. Yeo-ri then visits her grandmother, Chairwoman Baek, and is blindsided to learn she’s unwell. Chairwoman Baek asks her to start visiting more often, a request that feels heavier than it sounds given what happens later in the episode.
Elsewhere, Min-hwan digs up something significant: Gang-uk underwent a heart transplant twelve years ago. He starts quietly looking into who the donor actually was, and the show makes sure we clock this thread even though it doesn’t pay off yet.
Back on the case, Gang-uk and Yeo-ri plan a trip to the Yeeon Archive to dig through Prince Gangpyeong’s records, with Yeo-ri skipping a work meeting and handing it off to Manager Bong so she can go. At the archive, they find an entry in the prince’s journals referencing a camellia tree, and they piece together that Hwagyeongdang’s remains are buried beneath the very camellia tree sitting outside Hwa-young’s office. Now they just need to figure out how to dig it up without raising alarms.
At the same time, Gye-hee learns just how often Yeo-ri has been visiting the museum and how close she’s gotten to Hwa-young, and it worries her enough that Ha-ri flags it as a potential problem for their side of the family. Ha-ri then tracks down Yeo-ri’s ex-boyfriend, Cha Gi-u, and convinces him to help expose Yeo-ri’s secret, setting up a landmine that’s clearly meant to go off soon.
That evening, Gang-uk’s coworkers Pil-dong and Hyeong-min notice he’s actually been leaving work on time lately and start speculating he might be seeing someone. Meanwhile, the real Gang-uk is with Yeo-ri, strategizing how to convince Hwa-young to hand over the camellia tree. The next day, Yeo-ri asks Hwa-young directly if she can buy it. Hwa-young says no at first, then agrees to trade it for a rare pine tree instead.
That night, everything shifts. Yeo-ri gets a call that Chairwoman Baek has collapsed, and she rushes to the hospital to find Min-hwan already there, having found her grandmother after she fainted and brought her in himself. Yeo-ri breaks down at her grandmother’s bedside, made worse by the cruel irony that she can’t even hold her hand because of her own condition. It’s one of the quieter gut-punches of the episode, and it lands hard.
Later, Chairwoman Baek tells Yeo-ri she needs to announce her engagement to Min-hwan, explaining that Gye-hee, Ha-ri, and Dong-jun are all waiting for a chance to knock Yeo-ri out of the succession line. With her health failing, Chairwoman Baek wants the succession locked in as soon as possible. Yeo-ri calls Gang-uk afterward to fill him in on both her grandmother’s condition and the deal she struck over the camellia tree.
The Engagement Twist Nobody in the Family Expected
The next day, Yeo-ri and Gang-uk start excavating the camellia tree at the museum. Hwa-young mentions Yeo-ri’s interest in the tree to Gye-hee, who brushes it off without much concern. Bad weather eventually forces the dig to a halt before they can finish.
Not long after, Yeo-ri gets another call from her grandmother and tells Gang-uk she has no way out of the engagement to Min-hwan. Chairwoman Baek then invites Gye-hee, Ha-ri, and Dong-jun to a family dinner to make the announcement official. Ha-ri, meanwhile, is quietly waiting for Gi-u to show up and blow up Yeo-ri’s secret in front of everyone.
Instead, Gang-uk walks through the door. The episode ends on that image, with Yeo-ri and Gang-uk telling her stunned family that the two of them are getting engaged, not her and Min-hwan.
Episode 6 Review: The Kiss, the Collapse, and Everything Left Hanging
This was a genuinely entertaining hour of television, but it’s the quieter moment at the hospital that stuck with me the most. Watching Yeo-ri unable to hold her own grandmother’s hand, unable to comfort her in the most basic physical way because of her condition, is heartbreaking in a way the show earns without overplaying it. Now that we’re at the halfway point of the series, I’m genuinely curious where Yeo-ri and Gang-uk take things from here.
My read on that closing engagement reveal is that Gang-uk stepped in the moment he realized Yeo-ri was being pressured into marrying Min-hwan for the sake of the succession. It plays like a rescue as much as a romantic gesture, him offering to be her partner in name so Chairwoman Baek stops pushing her toward a marriage she clearly doesn’t want. Whether that’s the full explanation, we’ll have to wait and see, but it fits everything we’ve watched him do for her so far.
I’m also holding out hope that Gi-u tipped Yeo-ri off about Ha-ri’s plan to expose her secret. He came across as a genuinely decent person back in the first episode, so I’d like to believe that impression holds up rather than getting flipped for cheap drama.
Then there’s Gang-uk’s heart transplant, which the episode makes a point of bringing back up through Min-hwan’s digging. I can’t shake the feeling that the donor connects directly to Yeo-ri’s world, possibly even to Jin-hwan, which would explain a lot about why Gang-uk feels so pulled toward her from the start. As for the kiss itself: it was genuinely sweet, a little clumsy, exactly the kind of accidental-but-not-really moment this genre thrives on. I’m fully invested in watching this romance build from here.
