Rue ending up buried alive in the middle of nowhere honestly says everything about Euphoria Season 3 right now. One minute the episode is about Cassie chasing subscribers and arguing over contracts, and the next it suddenly turns into a full psychological nightmare.
Episode 5 feels chaotic in a way that almost never slows down. Cassie gets more obsessed with internet fame, Nate keeps looking more pathetic every week, and Rue walks deeper into trouble even when every warning sign is right in front of her. At the same time, Maddy somehow ends up being the only person who looks fully in control of her own decisions.
And the weird part is… she might actually be the most interesting character this season now.
Cassie’s Internet Fame Is Growing Fast
Episode 5 opens with Cassie fully leaning into her online career. After her video with Brandon goes viral, she suddenly gains 17,000 subscribers in less than a day. That’s enough to completely change her mindset.
You can already see how addicted she’s becoming to attention.
Maddy is basically running everything behind the scenes. She pushes Cassie hard, helps shape her image, and turns her into this “voice of the working class” personality online. Somehow it works. Cassie quickly climbs to 50,000 subscribers, and she starts acting like she’s untouchable.
One of the funniest moments comes during a podcast interview when someone calls Cassie a Democrat. Her response is so reckless and absurd that it immediately tells you how little she’s thinking before speaking now. She’s completely caught up in the performance of being famous.
But beneath all that confidence, things are still complicated.
Even though Cassie acts like she’s done with Nate emotionally, she’s secretly still sending him money. She literally wires him $35,000 just to stop him from getting evicted. That detail says a lot about where her head is right now. She wants freedom from him, but she still can’t fully let go.
At the same time, Nate suddenly becomes supportive of her content career, which immediately feels suspicious.
Maddy sees the red flags right away.
Cassie also realizes something important: if she becomes massively successful while still married to Nate, he could legally get half of everything she earns. That fear starts pushing her toward making even worse decisions.
Brandon becomes a bigger influence in this episode too.
He convinces Cassie that Maddy is holding her back and tells her she needs “real professionals” around her instead. According to him, Maddy has no actual power in the industry. He pushes Cassie to cut ties and build something bigger.
And honestly, Cassie is very easy to manipulate right now.
Nate makes things even stranger when he encourages her to film more erotic content with Brandon. That conversation felt surreal considering Nate’s history. Instead of jealousy or anger, he acts like a manager trying to maximize profits.
It’s another sign that Nate is emotionally broken this season.
Cassie eventually calls Maddy and tells her she wants to separate professionally. But Maddy barely reacts. In classic Maddy fashion, she immediately takes control of the situation.
She grabs the phone and casually cancels Cassie’s audition for *LA Nights with Dylan*.
That moment completely rattles Cassie.
Suddenly, her confidence disappears. She panics, says her head is spinning, and starts realizing how much she actually depends on Maddy. Then comes one of the dumbest decisions she’s made all season: she signs a contract Maddy prepared without even reading it first.
Seriously. She flips straight to the final page and signs.
That is absolutely going to come back later.
The funniest twist in this whole storyline is that Maddy was bluffing the entire time. There was no real rehearsal lined up for Cassie at all. But somehow Cassie still manages to talk her way into the studio thanks to Lexi’s connections. And against all odds, she actually impresses the director.
Lexi looks miserable watching it happen.
You can tell she hates seeing Cassie succeed this way, especially when everything feels so chaotic and undeserved. Still, Cassie lands the role, and for a brief moment she genuinely looks happy again.
The problem is that every victory in Euphoria always comes with consequences attached.
Meanwhile, Nate’s situation gets worse every episode.
He misses another payment to Naz, and this time the consequences arrive immediately. Naz sends people to beat him up, and Nate barely even fights back. That’s what’s strange about Nate this season. The old Nate would’ve exploded with violence by now. Instead, he mostly curls into himself and accepts the punishment.
It almost feels like he’s given up.
At this point, he hasn’t even tried to hide, move away, or protect himself. He just keeps surviving one disaster at a time.
The show clearly wants us to see how powerless he’s become.
While Cassie’s life turns into internet chaos, Rue’s storyline gets darker fast.
Alamo is furious after Laurie’s crew stole drugs from his safe. He wants revenge, and he doesn’t trust anyone around him anymore. Eddy’s fear annoys him, and the entire atmosphere around his operation feels unstable.
Rue gets called in for a private meeting, but before she arrives, Bishop warns her that bad luck follows her everywhere.
Honestly, that might be the most accurate description of Rue possible.
Alamo tells Rue that Laurie wants to meet. Rue immediately passes this information to the DEA, who pressure her into wiretapping Laurie for evidence.
The problem is that Rue is completely overwhelmed and barely holding things together. She needs results fast. That leads her to another bad decision.
Rue visits Jules during the afternoon, and their scenes together feel strangely detached from everything else happening in the episode.
Jules encourages Rue to relax and let loose for once, even suggesting sex as an escape from all the pressure. But the mood changes when Ellis later notices Rue’s clothes and realizes she’s been around his family again.
He immediately warns Jules that Rue brings danger into their lives. And honestly, he’s not wrong.
The issue is that Jules still feels disconnected from the core story this season. Her scenes almost feel like they belong to another show entirely. Every time she appears, the momentum slows down.
It’s frustrating because Jules used to feel essential to Euphoria. Now she mostly feels sidelined.
Things completely fall apart near the end of the episode.
Magick discovers drugs planted in her locker, drugs Rue secretly put there. She immediately realizes she’s being framed and brings the evidence to Alamo. That’s when Alamo starts connecting the dots.
Rue claimed not to recognize the voices of Laurie’s people earlier, but now the story suddenly doesn’t add up. Suspicion starts growing fast. At the same time, Rue meets with Maddy to discuss potential business opportunities involving Alamo’s girls. Weirdly enough, Maddy handles the conversation with surprising confidence. She’s ambitious enough to ignore how dangerous these people clearly are.
Then Alamo arrives.
He takes Rue outside with G and Bishop and drives her away from the city. The atmosphere during this scene is terrifying because you instantly know where it’s heading. Rue is forced to dig a hole.
And then comes the final image of the episode: Rue buried in dirt up to her neck while someone rides toward her through the darkness.
Cut to black.
Final Thoughts
Episode 5 feels like pure chaos, but in a way that’s still entertaining to watch. The pacing is much faster here, and the episode constantly jumps between disasters before you can fully process one of them.
Cassie’s fame storyline is messy but addictive. Maddy continues to steal almost every scene she’s in. And Rue’s ending was easily the most intense moment of the season so far.
That said, Euphoria still doesn’t feel like the same show it used to be. Earlier seasons balanced emotional depth with the chaos. Now the series often feels more interested in shock value and wild situations.
Still, this episode at least kept me hooked from beginning to end. And after that final scene, I genuinely need to know what happens next.
