Episodes 3 and 4 of Merry Berry Love are where this K-drama stopped being just a cute farm comedy and started feeling like a real love story. Ji Chang-wook’s Yu-bin and Mia Imada’s Karin spend these two hours sharing a roof, prepping for an agriculture festival, and finally letting their guards down. Below is my full Merry Berry Love episode 3-4 recap, followed by what worked for me, what didn’t, and my score. Heads up: this one has major spoilers, including the ending of Episode 4. This is Merry Berry Love Episode 3-4 Recap
Episode 3 Recap: A Leaky Roof, a Secret Diary, and a Very Awkward Morning
Staying Under Karin’s Roof
Episode 3 picks up right in the middle of the thunderstorm, with Karin asking Yu-bin if he’s okay. He says he is, and that’s exactly when rainwater punches through the roof of the shed and soaks him. Karin lets him spend the night in her house.
Inside, Yu-bin notices a small blue toy on a shelf. Karin explains that Gyeong-su, the Korean man who lived with her and her grandfather, bought it as a souvenir for his son. She even shows Yu-bin a suitcase packed with Gyeong-su’s belongings and says the man and her grandfather worked hard together growing different crops. Yu-bin never says out loud that Gyeong-su is his father. A flashback shows Gyeong-su handing Karin a small flowering plant and asking her to keep it for his son. Once Karin goes to bed, Yu-bin stays up reading his father’s diaries.
The next morning, Karin finds him asleep and, I have to say, gets a little distracted by his long lashes. She leans in closer, and he wakes up right then. Awkward doesn’t begin to cover it.
The Village Meeting and a Lie About Loan Sharks
Since there’s a village meeting, Karin tells Yu-bin he can skip work for the day. He decides to tag along because he saw photos of the villagers on his father’s camera. At the meeting, Karin brings up the Green Nova Corporation Festa, an agriculture competition for people in the region. While she presents her produce, Yu-bin looks completely mesmerized.
When everyone breaks for lunch, the villagers wonder if Yu-bin could be their cheerleader. Kunam steps in and tells them in Japanese that Yu-bin has to keep a low profile because loan sharks are after him. Honestly, I suspect Kunam just wants the cheerleader job for himself. Yu-bin ends up helping design their stall instead.
On the walk home, Karin asks why someone famous would come all the way out here. Yu-bin lies and says he needed a break and finds the island relaxing. Then Karin opens up about why she wants to win: she wants to prove she can run the farm on her own, despite her health issues.
House Rules and a Rival Named Reiji
Back home, Yu-bin begs to sleep inside because the shed is so uncomfortable. Karin agrees but hands him a long list of rules, including no entering the living room after 11 p.m., plus chores like making breakfast and taking out the trash.
The next morning, after breakfast, they go shopping for festa supplies and bump into Reiji. We learn he’s won the last three editions of the festa. He asks Karin why she even bothers trying, then walks away.
Later, Yu-bin asks why Reiji called her “Sleepyhead.” The two were in college together. A flashback shows a man trying to hold Karin’s hand when her heart rate spikes and she passes out. Reiji called her a sleepyhead afterward, and the nickname stuck.
Karin explains that when she’s stressed or her emotions run too high, her nervous system short-circuits and she faints. These days, she prefers to think of herself as a star that shines so bright she needs some rest afterward. I loved that framing.
Cheerleader Training, Korean Lessons, and a Helmet
Kunam rehearses a dance routine since he’s the festa’s cheerleader, and Mari has him drag her on a sled across the beach to build his stamina. Meanwhile, Karin shows Yu-bin where their stall will be. When he asks about her goal, she says she wants the warmth and sincerity of Charo Island to shine through.
Preparations ramp up, with Karin and Yu-bin both working hard. Karin also asks Kunam to teach her some Korean basics, explaining it’s for the festa so she can communicate with Yu-bin. While she’s packing produce with the villagers, Yu-bin texts her a picture of a gorgeous sunset by the water.
That night, he brings out beers for them both, and Karin wears a helmet in case she faints. When he mentions that she lives alone, she says she wants to prove she can do everything by herself. Yu-bin tells her it’s okay to depend on other people, and that she can lose the helmet because he’ll catch her if she falls. She takes it off. A few moments later, she closes her eyes and drops onto his shoulder.
Episode 4 Recap: A Bad Day for Mari and Kunam, a Great Day for Charo Island

Morning After and a Call From Seoul
Karin wakes up in her own bed and realizes Yu-bin must have carried her there after their night of drinking. He calls her outside, where he’s made breakfast, and while she eats, he heads off to check on their festa booth.
On the way, he gets a call from Hye-jin, who says a woman named Han Sia, whose family is in the resort business, wants to buy his land. It’s a huge opportunity, and Hye-jin wants him back in Seoul soon. He sounds reluctant.
The Hug That Didn’t Count
Kunam asks Mari whether today is their first day as a couple, but she doesn’t seem to remember what happened the night before. A flashback shows them rehearsing a song for Karin’s stall. They celebrate, Mari says the air feels romantic, and she looks up to kiss him, but Kunam hugs her instead.
Back in the present, Mari says a hug doesn’t count for anything and denies feeling romance. Kunam storms off with the ramen he’d bought for the two of them and eats it with Yu-bin instead. The two of them wallow together. It’s the funniest, saddest ramen scene I’ve seen in a while.
The Festa Kicks Off
Yu-bin gets back to the farm to find Karin in a great mood, because her strawberries are doing well. She also shows him a newly bloomed flower, a plant that signifies love and respect.
The next day, the festa begins. Karin is thrilled to see that Yu-bin designed the whole stall to reflect her farm and her hard work. Then Reiji strolls in and shows off his flashy booth right in front of them. Mari and the other villagers arrive to cheer Karin on, and they take a group photo, making sure Yu-bin is in it too.
While Mari and Kunam promote the stall, a customer speaks to Kunam in Korean, and Mari gets jealous. Karin and Yu-bin wander through the market eating and playing around. Kunam grows so popular at the Charo Island stall that Mari gets even more annoyed.
Then comes my favorite small moment. While Karin is looking at the board showing votes, the same schoolchildren who wrecked her farm show up and give her a bunch of yellow flowers. It’s all Yu-bin’s doing, since he noticed her admiring flowers earlier.
The Man Who Crushed a Strawberry
When the panel of judges arrives, they seem impressed. An older man joins them, and Karin clearly knows him well. He says he recently joined Nova Corporation. But instead of eating a strawberry, he crushes it and inspects the inside. He leaves his card with Karin and tells her to email the documents about her strawberries.
After he leaves, Karin tells Yu-bin the man used to visit her house when she was younger and was very kind to her family. Meanwhile, a little way off, the man tells his secretary to find out who Yu-bin is, saying the resemblance is uncanny.
Winners, Fireworks, and That Kiss
At the end of the event, Reiji wins product evaluation, but Karin takes booth operations. Then the overall festa winner is announced: Charo Island! As Karin gives her speech, Yu-bin gets a text from Hye-jin asking him to call.
Later, Karin hands her medal to Yu-bin. He mentions there will be fireworks nearby, and she leads him to a secluded spot where they can watch without crowds. While they wait, she tells him she can’t date or fall in love because her body collapses when her heart races. He takes her hand, and she notices her watch doesn’t beep. They look at each other, she tells him she likes him, and she kisses him. He kisses her back as fireworks explode behind them.
What Worked: Why These Two Episodes Hit So Hard
Episode 3 gives the couple a shared goal. The Green Nova Corporation Festa is a smart target for Karin and Yu-bin to work toward together. I especially enjoyed watching the villagers pitch in on festa prep, and the animated checklist adds a playful touch to that stretch.
Karin’s health gets real context. We finally see what it’s like for her, and the flashback does a good job of showing how badly she wants to prove herself to people who are constantly worried about her. The “star that shines too bright” line stayed with me. The helmet scene is another highlight, because Yu-bin’s promise to catch her feels like the heart of their whole relationship.
The chemistry keeps getting better. Between the alarm-clock bit with both of them sporting messy hair and the shopping trip shenanigans, there’s a lot to love. Putting them under one roof is a great move for their romance. Ji Chang-wook and Mia Imada are delightful to watch, bouncing between heartfelt talks and playful bickering.
The supporting cast steals scenes. Kunam’s terrible cheerleading dance and Mari making him “build stamina” had me laughing. The man with the gold tooth who first helped Yu-bin is a cute addition to the village family, too.
Episode 4’s ending is perfect. Karin kisses him right after saying she might not be able to date anyone, and I did not see that coming. Ji Chang-wook plays Yu-bin’s falling-in-love stage with such an adorable softness. The final fireworks scene, with Yu-bin reaching for her hand, is flawless. I also loved that they speak each other’s languages in the big moments, like when Karin tells him she likes him.
The stakes are rising. Hye-jin’s calls and Han Sia’s offer remind us why Yu-bin really came back to the farm, especially since he’s lost everything. And that old man with the strawberry is shaping up to be trouble.
What Didn’t Quite Land
The father mystery is thin so far. Episode 3 adds intrigue around Yu-bin’s father, but there’s still plenty we don’t know. I’m patient, but I want more answers soon.
Mari and Kunam’s subplot is a little repetitive. The jealousy and misunderstanding beats are fun, but they mostly mirror the main couple’s will-they-won’t-they without moving much. It’s cute, not essential.
The old man leans a bit obvious. Crushing a strawberry and ordering his secretary to investigate Yu-bin gives him a villain aura right away. It works for tension, but it’s not subtle.
Score: 8.5/10
| Category | Score |
|---|---|
| Episode 3 | 8/10 |
| Episode 4 | 8.5/10 |
| Overall | 8.5/10 |
Episode 3 builds warmth, and Episode 4 cashes it in with a festival win and a kiss. With turbulence on the way, I can’t wait for Episode 5.
