Windsor Castle isn’t Windsor Castle. The White House pool isn’t in Washington. And the Italian G7 summit that closes the season? It’s a patchwork of Medici villas, a Ferragamo family estate and one very photogenic walled city.
The Diplomat Season 4 arrived on Netflix on October 15, 2026, and it plays the same trick as the best political dramas: it makes power look like a place you could walk into. Behind that illusion is a surprisingly global shoot. Principal photography ran from early November 2025 to June 5, 2026, and Netflix says the season filmed in more than 15 cities and towns across the UK, the US and, for the first time, Italy.
If you’ve just watched the finale, our Season 4 ending explained covers what that G7 walkout means. This guide answers the other question: where did they actually film it, and which of these places can you visit?
A quick note on accuracy. Every location below comes from Netflix’s own Tudum location guide, Netflix’s newsroom, the Toscana Film Commission or the property owners themselves. Where the production didn’t say which scene was shot at a location, we say so rather than guess.
England: Rebuilding Windsor Castle
The opening episodes are the season’s biggest puzzle. When a protest diverts the presidential motorcade to Windsor, the production didn’t shoot at the real castle. According to Netflix, Windsor was assembled from nine different locations across New York State and the UK, filmed by two crews on opposite sides of the Atlantic. The English half starts here.
Location 01
Burghley House – Windsor Castle (Exterior & Courtyard)

Context in the Drama: The exterior and inner courtyard of Windsor Castle, where the presidential party is received in Episode 1 (“Windsor”) before the shooting on the lawn.
Address & Location: Near Stamford, Lincolnshire, England
Burghley is a 16th-century Elizabethan mansion built by William Cecil, Lord High Treasurer to Elizabeth I, and it has stood in for Windsor Castle before, in The Crown. The estate has confirmed that filming for The Diplomat took place there this spring, and says visitors can see some of the rooms and spaces that appear on screen. Opening times are seasonal, so check the official website before you go.
Location 02
Belvoir Castle – Hal’s Office

Context in the Drama: Hal Wyler’s office scenes during the Windsor sequence.
Address & Location: Leicestershire, England
Belvoir Castle is the seat of the Dukes of Rutland, and yes, it’s pronounced “Beaver.” It’s a working estate that opens to visitors on selected days, so confirm dates before planning a trip around it.
Location 03
Lancaster House – Windsor Castle (Interiors)

Context in the Drama: Additional rooms and hallways used to build the castle interiors.
Address & Location: St James’s, Westminster, London
A grand mansion beside Green Park and a short walk from Buckingham Palace, Lancaster House is used by the UK government for official hospitality. It isn’t open for regular drop-in visits, though it occasionally appears in heritage open days.
Location 04
The British Foreign Office – Windsor Interiors & Government Scenes
Context in the Drama: Interior spaces that helped complete the castle illusion, in a building the series has used since earlier seasons.
Address & Location: King Charles Street, Whitehall, London
This is a working government department, so the interior isn’t open to casual visitors. You can still admire the building from the street, and it’s an easy stop on a Whitehall walk.
Location 05
Goldsmiths’ Hall – London Interiors

Context in the Drama: Netflix lists it among the season’s London locations but doesn’t say which scene was filmed there.
Address & Location: Foster Lane, City of London
A mid-19th-century livery hall of the Goldsmiths’ Company, known for its lavish interiors. It has also doubled as Buckingham Palace in The Crown. Access is limited, so look for special events or heritage open days.
Location 06
Wrotham Park – Winfield House (Kate and Hal’s Residence)

Context in the Drama: The exterior of Winfield House, the US ambassador’s residence in London, with some interiors shot inside the house itself.
Address & Location: South Mimms, Hertfordshire, England
The real Winfield House sits in Regent’s Park and is far harder to film at, so the show relies on this country estate north of London, familiar from The Crown, Bridgerton and Downton Abbey. It’s a private estate with no regular public access. Some of the residence’s interiors were built as sets at Steiner Studios in Brooklyn (see Location 12).
New York: The Other Half of Windsor
While one crew worked in England, another in New York State found interiors with the same “DNA,” in the words of US location manager Rob Coleman. Add the Washington and naval scenes, and the Empire State does a lot of heavy lifting this season.
Location 07
Sleepy Hollow Country Club – President Penn’s Office at Windsor

Context in the Drama: Grace Penn’s office during the Windsor sequence, plus the ladies’ restroom scenes.
Address & Location: Scarborough-on-Hudson (Briarcliff Manor area), Westchester County, New York
A historic private club overlooking the Hudson River. It’s members-only, so it isn’t a drop-in stop.
Location 08
Woolworth Estate (Winfield Hall), Glen Cove – The Equerries Room (Episode 2)

Context in the Drama: The Equerries Room used by staff in Episode 2 (“Redcoats”).
Address & Location: Glen Cove, Long Island, New York
Built for retail magnate F.W. Woolworth, this Gilded Age mansion is widely known as Winfield Hall. Here’s a fun coincidence: the real Winfield House in London was built for Woolworth’s heiress granddaughter and named after this very estate. It’s a private property.
Location 09
St. Josaphat’s Monastery – The Royal Library

Context in the Drama: The Royal Library at the fictional Windsor.
Address & Location: Glen Cove, Long Island, New York
A working monastery with a grand library space. Treat it as a religious community first and a filming location second, and contact them before visiting.
Location 10
Church of the Intercession – The Panic Room

Context in the Drama: The secure lockdown space where Kate and Hal are sequestered after Grace is shot.
Address & Location: Manhattan, New York City
The production designer has said the scene was shot in the church’s crypt-like lower spaces. It’s an active church, so check service times and be respectful of the congregation.
Location 11
Empire State VII at SUNY Maritime College – The Aircraft Carrier (Episode 2)

Context in the Drama: The inner corridors, surgery room, refectory and the deck where Todd stands contemplating, all aboard the carrier where Grace is rushed for surgery.
Address & Location: SUNY Maritime College, the Bronx, New York
The crew filmed aboard the Empire State VII, a US Maritime Administration training ship docked at the college, rather than building sets. The ship’s exterior shots were created digitally. It’s an active training vessel on a college campus and isn’t open to the public.
Location 12
Steiner Studios, Brooklyn – Carrier VFX & Winfield House Sets

Context in the Drama: The studio parking lot was used to film a live helicopter for the carrier’s wide shots, and some Winfield House interiors were built here.
Address & Location: Brooklyn Navy Yard, Brooklyn, New York
A working film studio, so not a visitor attraction.
Location 13
The Woolworth Building – The White House Pool

Context in the Drama: The basement pool where Todd swims laps at the White House.
Address & Location: 233 Broadway, Lower Manhattan (Tribeca area), New York City
Production designer Curt Beech chose it as a nod to the swimming pool that once existed in the real White House. The Woolworth Building is best admired from the street, and the interior is mostly private. If you go, the exterior is a New York landmark in itself.
Location 14
Tribeca Apartment – Eidra’s Residence

Context in the Drama: The official residence of London CIA station chief Eidra Park, a sleek apartment with a glass-walled courtyard and an industrial staircase.
Address & Location: Tribeca, New York City (the specific building hasn’t been disclosed)
The producers wanted Eidra’s home to feel different from the more traditional residences used by Kate and Stuart. It’s a private residence, so don’t go looking for the front door.
Italy: The G7 Summit in Tuscany
The last two episodes, “Phony Negroni” and “Warships,” move the whole cast to a fictional G7 in Italy. The production needed several locations that could be filmed over a few weeks and still feel like one place, so it built the summit from the city of Lucca and a ring of Medici villas and country estates around Florence.
Location 15
Lucca – The G7 Summit Town

Context in the Drama: Exterior shots of the summit, including scenes with Stuart, Eidra and Billie.
Address & Location: Lucca, Tuscany (the old town inside the Renaissance walls)
The main shoot took place on May 13 and 14, 2026, when the city was dressed with flags, black cars and banners so convincing that some passersby reportedly thought a real summit was underway. According to the Toscana Film Commission, the crews worked at Palazzo Ducale in Piazza Napoleone, Porta San Pietro, Piazza San Frediano, Piazza Anfiteatro, Piazza Guidiccioni and Via Sant’Andrea. All of these are public streets and squares you can walk freely, and the city’s old walls make a great cycling route.
Location 16
Villa Reale di Marlia – The Delegation Rooms

Context in the Drama: Various rooms used by the G7 delegations.
Address & Location: Marlia, Capannori, just outside Lucca
One of Tuscany’s most elegant historic villas, known for its formal gardens. Visiting arrangements change by season, so check the official website for current tour options.
Location 17
Villa Medicea di Poggio a Caiano – Exteriors & The Orchestra Night

Context in the Drama: Some of the G7 exteriors and the entire concert-night sequence.
Address & Location: Poggio a Caiano, near Prato, Tuscany
A Medici villa with a famously symmetrical facade, which makes it a natural fit for a summit’s grand evening. It’s a museum open to the public, though opening days vary, so check ahead.
Location 18
Villa Medicea La Petraia – The G7 Octagon Room

Context in the Drama: The main room where the summit takes place.
Address & Location: Castello district, Florence, Tuscany
This former Medici villa on a hill north of central Florence is a state museum with gardens. It’s open to visitors, but confirm the days and hours before you go.
Location 19
Viesca Toscana – The Delegation Lodgings, Greenhouse & Walk-and-Talks
Context in the Drama: The accommodation scenes, including the greenhouse where Grace takes Kate to pick basil, and several walks between the president and vice president.
Address & Location: Reggello, in the Florentine countryside, Tuscany
A Renaissance-era estate that was the summer home of Salvatore and Wanda Ferragamo, and which now operates as a luxury stay. Netflix names Villa Viesca and Villa Gelso specifically. This is the one location on the list where you can actually book a bed, with suites and private villas set among cypress-lined grounds.
Location 20
Dimora Ghirlandaio – The Poolside Conversation

Context in the Drama: Stuart and Billie’s tense conversation by the pool.
Address & Location: Impruneta, near Florence, Tuscany
A country estate in the hills south of Florence. We couldn’t confirm that it takes casual visitors, so contact the property before making plans.
Planning a Diplomat Trip
If you want to see as much as possible without needing special access, the Italian leg is by far the easiest. Base yourself in Florence and you can reach La Petraia and Poggio a Caiano on easy half-day trips, then take Lucca as a separate day outing. Adding Viesca for a night or two gets you inside the estate where the president and vice president did their walking and talking.
In England, Burghley House and Belvoir Castle are the two places that realistically welcome visitors. Both are stately homes with seasonal opening, and neither is close to the other, so treat them as separate trips. In New York, almost everything is private, so the Woolworth Building and Church of the Intercession are best enjoyed as exteriors or during a service.
Final Word
The quiet genius of The Diplomat is that it keeps asking where power lives. Season 4 answers with a magician’s trick: one castle that’s really nine places, a White House pool in a Lower Manhattan basement, a G7 summit stitched together from Medici villas. When Kate finally walks out of those grand, dark halls into the light, you’re watching a handful of very real, very beautiful buildings pretending to be one place.
Spot a location we missed, or know the scene at Goldsmiths’ Hall? Corrections and additions are always welcome.
