Agent Kim Reactivated Episode 9 opens with Mr. Ju giving his assistant another chance, before a brief flashback takes us a few hours earlier, where Mr. Ju talks about stirring up more trouble. That trouble turns out to be devastating: the North Korean representative shuts down the inter-Korean peace talks the moment he discovers Mr. Kim and Ri Eung Ryeong there.
Back in the present, Mole Cricket and his team intercept Mr. Kim, Jin-cheol, and Han-su at the trailer cabin. Mr. Kim and Ri Eung Ryeong are handed straight over to the North Korean authorities. A quick flashback fills in the motive here, revealing that the SMD head wants the ballistic missile intel out of Ri Eung Ryeong, and the plan all along has been to wait for Mr. Kim to lose control again.
Meanwhile, Jin-cheol and Han-su are left scrambling. They debate whether to chase after Mr. Kim, and in the process discover his phone left behind, realizing Kim swapped it for Han-su’s instead. It’s a small detail, but it sets up the disconnect that defines the rest of the episode.
The Forked Road: Kim Is Taken, Ri Eung Ryeong Is Shot
Things take a violent turn when Kim and Ri Eung Ryeong’s cars diverge at a forked road. Kim is handed off to Mr. Ju, while Ri Eung Ryeong is shot by the North Korean authorities. I genuinely didn’t expect that gunshot this early in the episode. Mr. Ju prepares to take Kim away, but Kim fights back, and Han-su and Jin-cheol arrive just in time to take out Ju’s men.
Desperate to know where Ri Eung Ryeong was taken, Kim strikes a deal with Ju: let him go, and Ju will lead Kim to her. Back in the safe room, Minji waits it out alone, bored, tired, and clearly worried, a quiet reminder that the human cost of this mission isn’t limited to the agents in the field.
Torture, Surveillance, and the Plan to Get Ri Eung Ryeong Out
Ri Eung Ryeong is taken to the North Korean head and tortured for information on exactly how much South Korea knows about the missile intel. Sang-a and the laundromat owner are positioned near the hotel, keeping watch on the North Korean team’s movements, and they relay updates to Kim while Han-su presses Ju for an easy way inside.
Ju comes through with intel of his own: there’s a tunnel leading straight to the chairman’s office, and no CCTV covering it. He hands over his entry card too, though there’s a catch, the North Korean delegates have already disabled the hotel’s CCTV and are running their own surveillance instead.
With that laid out, Kim and the team build their extraction plan. Kim will handle getting to Ri Eung Ryeong directly, while the others create a distraction, and she’ll be smuggled out hidden inside a laundry truck. The catch is brutal: they only have a ten-minute window when the truck arrives and leaves, and the laundromat owner takes on the responsibility of managing that timing.
Inside the Ten-Minute Extraction
At nightfall, the team gears up and moves in through the tunnel, unaware that the new 66 is watching their every move. In the chairman’s office, Kim, Han-su, and Sang-a finalize their approach, but Ju has other plans brewing in the background. He gets word from his assistant that everything is ready on his end.
Jin-cheol orders room service as cover, and he and Sang-a disguise themselves in attendants’ uniforms while Han-su hides under the service trolley. The three make their move, storming the surveillance room and pinpointing Ri Eung Ryeong’s location on the fifth-floor suite.
Kim slips into the room just as the North Korean delegate is pressing Ri Eung Ryeong about funds funneled to Macau for operations against South Korea, eight million dollars, stored as casino chips in a private safe at Fanta Casino. The delegate wants the access card and promises to spare her life for it. Ri Eung Ryeong claims she hid the card in China instead. With barely five minutes left on the clock, Kim knocks the delegate out cold.
Everything Goes Wrong at Once
This is where the episode kicks into overdrive. Han-su and Jin-cheol take on guards in the hallway while the North Korean agents catch on to the interception, forcing Sang-a to escape with seconds to spare. Communication cuts out entirely, leaving Kim and the team working blind. Kim clears the remaining guards outside, moving methodically through every obstacle in his path, while Mr. Ju uses the chaos to attempt his own escape from captivity.
Then the North Korean agents deploy an EMP, killing power across the entire building. Jin-cheol and Han-su run into four more agents at the elevator, and Jin-cheol takes all of them on by himself, a genuinely impressive sequence. The laundromat owner is forced to leave and reluctantly complies, just as the North Korean delegate wakes up and orders Kim and Ri Eung Ryeong captured.
With less than a minute left, Kim and Ri Eung Ryeong get caught in gunfire at the loading dock. Han-su, meanwhile, faces off against Jang Tae San, a North Korean agent and gold medal wrestler who claims to know him personally, a thread I suspect will matter more later. Ju manages to free himself by burning through the rope binding his hands, badly burning his wrists in the process. The laundromat owner heads back to the resort, this time taking a different route, while Kim fights off North Korean agents wearing night vision gear, only for even more agents to arrive and surround the team.
That Ending: Mr. Ju’s Ultimate Threat
Han-su and Jin-cheol finally reach Mr. Ju’s office, only to find him casually enjoying a drink. And then the floor drops out from under them: a video shows Han-su and Jin-cheol’s children being held captive by Ju’s assistant. It’s a chilling way to close things out, and it completely reframes the stakes heading into whatever comes next.
Episode Review: Agent Kim Reactivated Just Raised the Stakes to a Whole New Level
Well, that was one stunner of an episode. Between the ten-minute window to pull off a near-impossible extraction and Mr. Ju kidnapping Jin-cheol and Han-su’s kids in the final seconds, episode 9 delivered more thrills than almost anything else this series has done so far.
Going back to episode 7, it’s become clear that Minji’s storyline has settled into more of a secondary role in the bigger picture. Even with her reunion with Mr. Kim, the path to any kind of happy ending for this father and daughter runs through some genuinely rough waters, and I don’t think the show is done testing that relationship yet.
What strikes me most watching this episode is how tightly it’s structured around time pressure. The ten-minute extraction window isn’t just a plot device, it’s the entire emotional engine of the middle act, and the show does a great job making every second of that window feel like it actually matters. The EMP twist in particular caught me off guard; cutting power to the whole building at the worst possible moment is the kind of escalation that keeps a rescue mission from ever feeling too clean or too easy.
I’m genuinely eager to see what the finale has in store, and based on where things are left, there doesn’t seem to be much story left unexplored. The extraction mission is clearly in its final stages, and both Jin-cheol and Han-su are going to do whatever it takes to get their kids back now that Ju has shown his hand. The real lingering question for me is what happens to Mr. Ju himself. Does he finally get what’s coming to him, or does he slip away again the way he always seems to?
