Episode 4 of Notes from the Last Row pushes the mystery deeper as Kang continues investigating the truth behind Min-hui’s death, while Mun-oh finds himself pulled further into a story that feels dangerously close to reality. What started as a simple investigation into Se-yun’s suspicious behavior slowly turns into something much bigger, involving hidden affairs, family secrets, and a question that keeps hanging over everyone: who is really telling the truth?
This episode also spends more time exploring Mun-oh’s personal struggles. While he becomes increasingly focused on protecting Eun-joo and uncovering Su-hun’s possible involvement, his own marriage with Hyun-suk continues to fall apart. Watching him ignore the people closest to him while chasing answers was honestly one of the most frustrating parts of this episode.
Notes from the Last Row Episode 4 Recap
The episode begins with Kang telling Mun-oh that he believes Se-yun is the same person who spoke with Jae-sik. Mun-oh immediately questions him and asks if he has any real proof, but Kang explains that he found evidence inside Se-yun’s room.
According to Kang, Se-yun had destroyed several novels and had started isolating himself completely. He wasn’t leaving his room, and he had stopped studying together with Kang. The strange behavior makes Kang even more convinced that Se-yun is hiding something.
A flashback reveals that Kang had already noticed Se-yun acting differently. He tells Eun-joo and Su-hun that Se-yun refused to eat dinner, leaving everyone concerned. Eun-joo wonders if Se-yun’s behavior is connected to Min-hui’s murder, but the conversation quickly turns uncomfortable.
Su-hun forces Se-yun to come to the table, but things become tense when Eun-joo mentions Min-hui. Se-yun clearly struggles with the topic, and Su-hun gets angry at Eun-joo for bringing up the late maid.
Kang notices how strongly Su-hun reacts when Min-hui is mentioned. Later, when Su-hun finds out that Min-hui’s funeral is approaching because she has no family to arrange it, he offers to pay for everything himself. He explains that it is his way of thanking her for everything she did for their household.
However, Se-yun overhears this conversation and suddenly leaves the table, making Kang even more suspicious.
Back in the present, Kang tells Mun-oh everything he observed. Mun-oh asks him to return to the hotel and search for more evidence that could connect Su-hun to the situation.
Kang begins watching Se-yun more closely and eventually brings Mun-oh CCTV footage that seems to confirm something important. The footage shows Se-yun visiting the hotel while investigating the relationship between Su-hun and Min-hui.
For Kang, this changes how he sees Se-yun. Instead of envying his seemingly perfect life, Kang starts feeling sympathy for him. He realizes Se-yun may have been carrying a heavy burden all along.
Mun-oh encourages Kang to keep investigating. He believes they need to uncover the truth and help Se-yun escape whatever problem he is trapped in.
During their conversation, Kang mentions that Se-yun’s older sister, Jeong-hu, is coming back home. He also explains that Se-yun shares everything with her, which could reveal more about what really happened.
Jeong-hu Returns and the Family Secrets Start Falling Apart
When Jeong-hu arrives at the Kim family house, Kang immediately asks her for an autograph. But the mood changes when Jeong-hu learns that Su-hun plans to attend Min-hui’s funeral.
Se-yun welcomes his sister home while Kang quietly listens nearby. He overhears Eun-joo talking to Jeong-hu about Se-yun’s recent rebellious behavior and how much he has changed.
Later, Jeong-hu speaks privately with Se-yun. Kang follows them, wanting to understand what they know.
Their conversation reveals a much darker side of the situation. The siblings talk about their father’s affair and Su-hun’s possible connection to Min-hui’s death.
They consider telling Eun-joo the truth about the affair, but Se-yun hesitates. He worries about what his mother might do because she previously tried to end her life. Then Se-yun reveals something shocking: he believes Kang is actually responsible for Min-hui’s murder.
That moment completely changes the way Kang’s investigation looks. The person he has been trying to understand may actually suspect him instead.
Later, Eun-joo approaches Kang and asks him to help prepare Su-hun’s birthday cake. But Kang’s curiosity gets the better of him, and he tries to listen to Se-yun and Jeong-hu’s conversation again.
This time, he hears Se-yun talking about following Su-hun to the hospital after Min-hui’s accident.
Jeong-hu becomes worried about the consequences. If Su-hun’s connection to Min-hui’s death becomes public, it could damage his reputation and also affect her own writing career.
She pressures Se-yun to stay quiet, making it clear that she does not want the truth to come out.
Mun-oh Starts Losing Himself in Kang’s Story
After learning more about Se-yun’s situation, Kang tells Mun-oh that Se-yun is frightened and emotionally broken. The two begin questioning what Se-yun actually saw at the hotel and what happened at the hospital after Min-hui’s accident.
Kang believes they need to tell Eun-joo about the affair, but Mun-oh immediately refuses. He doesn’t want to involve her and insists that protecting her is more important. Kang notices how strongly Mun-oh reacts whenever Eun-joo is involved. He questions why Mun-oh is so determined to protect her, but Mun-oh avoids answering.
He simply says he does not want Eun-joo’s life to be put at risk.
Later, after leaving university, Mun-oh notices a woman who looks like Eun-joo. He follows her, eventually ending up at an art gallery. But when he gets there, he sees the real Eun-joo already inside with Su-hun. The two are talking together, and Mun-oh quietly leaves without approaching them.
That night, Mun-oh struggles to sleep. His thoughts are consumed by one thing: how he can save Eun-joo from Su-hun.
The Hidden Letter Reveals Another Mystery in Notes from the Last Row Episode 4
That night, Hyun-suk asks Mun-oh to drink wine with her. She tries to have a serious conversation, but Mun-oh remains distant and refuses to explain anything about Kang or the strange events surrounding the manuscript.
Their conversation becomes uncomfortable when Hyun-suk apologizes for previously accusing Mun-oh of being jealous of Su-hun. She seems to want to understand him, but Mun-oh keeps shutting her out.
Then Kang suddenly sends Mun-oh a photo, interrupting their conversation.
Mun-oh immediately shifts his attention back to the investigation. When he calls Kang, he learns about a suspicious letter that was delivered to Su-hun earlier that day.
A flashback shows Kang searching for Su-hun at his office. There, he sees Su-hun destroying the letter and throwing away the pieces. After Su-hun leaves, Kang collects the shredded paper and carefully puts it back together in his room.
What he discovers is disturbing.
The letter appears to be a threat connected to the hotel CCTV footage. Someone knows about the footage and is using it against Su-hun.
For Mun-oh, this is the confirmation he has been waiting for. He becomes convinced that the hotel contains the evidence needed to prove Su-hun’s involvement.
Kang also tells him that Se-yun plans to meet someone later that night. He decides to follow him and find out what Se-yun is really doing.
Mun-oh asks him to contact him immediately if he discovers anything.
But this investigation is already affecting Mun-oh’s personal life. Hyun-suk confronts him after the call and asks why he keeps lying to her.
Their argument becomes one of the most emotional scenes in the episode. Hyun-suk points out that even though she is a marriage counselor, she cannot save their relationship because Mun-oh refuses to communicate.
Mun-oh dismisses her feelings and returns to his room, waiting for Kang’s next update.
It’s a painful moment because Hyun-suk is clearly trying to reach him, but Mun-oh is too consumed by Kang’s story and Eun-joo’s situation to notice how much damage he is causing.
The Final Twist: Eun-joo May Know More Than Everyone Thinks
Later that night, Kang follows Se-yun and sees him running toward someone. Kang immediately chases after him, trying to figure out who Se-yun is meeting.
Meanwhile, Mun-oh waits anxiously at home, unable to focus on anything else. Hours pass before Kang suddenly appears at Mun-oh’s house in the middle of the night. He tells Mun-oh that he finally knows the truth. Mun-oh tries to keep his voice down so Hyun-suk does not wake up, but Kang reveals something unexpected.
The person he was chasing was not Se-yun. It was Eun-joo.
Hyun-suk overhears Eun-joo’s name from outside the room, and the episode ends with Mun-oh realizing something shocking: Eun-joo may already know the truth about Su-hun.
The final scene completely changes the direction of the story. Until now, Mun-oh has been acting like Eun-joo is someone who needs protection, but this reveal raises a bigger question.
What if Eun-joo has known everything from the beginning?
Notes from the Last Row Episode 4 Review: Mun-oh Is Losing Control of Reality
Episode 4 is where Notes from the Last Row becomes much more than a simple mystery about Min-hui’s death. The episode keeps building tension around Se-yun, Su-hun, and the hidden evidence, but the most interesting part for me was watching Mun-oh slowly lose himself in Kang’s story.
There is something fascinating and frustrating about Mun-oh’s obsession with Eun-joo. His feelings for her have apparently lasted for decades, yet the show makes it clear that those emotions were never truly returned.
That raises a major question: if Mun-oh has always carried these feelings, why did he marry Hyun-suk?
His relationship with Hyun-suk becomes harder to watch because she is clearly suffering from his emotional distance. She is trying to save their marriage, but Mun-oh barely seems aware that she is hurting.
The irony is that Mun-oh spends so much time worrying about Eun-joo’s safety while ignoring the person who is standing right beside him.
This episode also shows how deeply Kang’s manuscript has affected him. Mun-oh is no longer simply reading a story or investigating a mystery. He is becoming emotionally trapped inside it.
If Kang’s writing is actually a carefully created story designed to manipulate Mun-oh, then it is working exactly as intended.
Mun-oh is abandoning his responsibilities, damaging his marriage, and risking his own judgment because he wants to uncover the truth behind a fictional world that may or may not reflect reality.
That uncertainty is what makes the series interesting.
I’m also curious about Se-yun’s role moving forward. He appears scared and emotionally exhausted, but there are still pieces missing. His belief that Kang is connected to Min-hui’s death completely changes the way we look at him.
The biggest question after this episode is Eun-joo herself.
Is she truly caught in the middle of everything, or has she been aware of Su-hun’s actions all along?
The final reveal makes it clear that Mun-oh may not be the only person chasing answers. Eun-joo might already know the truth, and that could completely change everything.
Notes from the Last Row Episode 4 does a great job creating tension through uncertainty. The mystery continues to grow, but the real emotional conflict is happening inside Mun-oh. He is searching for the truth while slowly losing control of his own life.
