A Bloody Lucky Day Episode 5 Recap and Ending Breakdown

This time, we’re sharing the recap for A Bloody Lucky Day Episode 5. If you missed the previous recap, you can check it out first. A Bloody Lucky Day (2023) is a Korean drama series starring Lee Sung-min, Yoo Yeon-seok, and Lee Jung-eun. The 10-episode thriller aired on tvN, replacing the time slot previously occupied by Twinkling Watermelon. The drama is adapted from the webcomic Woonsoo Ojin Nal by Aporia, which was published on Naver from May 10, 2020, to October 24, 2020.

Episode 5 opens with a brief look at Hyuk-soo deliberately choosing to ride in Oh Taek’s taxi. It no longer feels like a coincidence. He intentionally ignored the other taxis and specifically picked Oh Taek’s. Picking up from the previous episode, Hyuk-soo calls Oh Taek and asks to meet him. Meanwhile, Oh Taek tries to delay the police by sending the search team, including Joong-min and his partner, to a different location.

Oh Taek calls his wife and learns that their daughter has gone missing. Mi-rim has already reported it to the police, but they tell her it’s still too early to officially begin a search. She also informs Oh Taek that Seung-mi had purchased a taser, and the package was recently delivered to their home. Mi-rim fears their daughter may already be in danger.

As Oh Taek attempts to leave the police station, Soon-kyu arrives with several officers. When he introduces himself, Oh Taek remembers Hyuk-soo mentioning Soon-kyu’s connection to Yoon-ho’s death. Soon-kyu is devastated after confirming that his son did not commit suicide and that Hyuk-soo was responsible for his death. Taking advantage of the situation, Oh Taek quietly slips out of the station. Soon-kyu quickly notices and chases after him.

At the same time, Hyuk-soo receives a call telling him he must be at the harbor by 5 a.m.

Soon-kyu eventually catches up to Oh Taek and opens up about his struggles. He tries to convince Oh Taek not to pursue Hyuk-soo alone or trust him, but Oh Taek believes this may be his only chance to save his daughter. He realizes that Hyuk-soo intentionally chose his taxi and kidnapped Seung-mi in order to manipulate him. Since Oh Taek refuses to involve the police, Soon-kyu asks to join him, but Oh Taek abandons him and drives away with his phone and truck.

Meanwhile, the woman who helped Oh Taek with his phone reveals that her son is a police officer. When the officer arrives home, he is horrified to find his dog dead outside. Inside the house, he discovers his mother lying dead on the floor and realizes there is an intruder in the house. The officer proves to be more skilled than Hyuk-soo and nearly kills him, but Oh Taek suddenly arrives and begs for Hyuk-soo’s life. In a shocking moment, Oh Taek steps aside and allows Hyuk-soo to kill the officer.

Hyuk-soo later tells Oh Taek that he kidnapped Seung-mi and originally planned to kill her before ever getting into the taxi. However, Seung-mi confidently told him that her father would find her. Her unwavering belief that her father would do anything for her and her brother fascinates Hyuk-soo. He turns it into a twisted game.

Hyuk-soo decides to ride with Oh Taek all the way to Mokpo. Once they arrive, he promises to reveal Seung-mi’s location. If Oh Taek agrees to die for him, Hyuk-soo will call the police and tell them where Seung-mi is being held. Desperate and cornered, Oh Taek challenges Hyuk-soo to shoot him immediately if it guarantees his daughter’s safety.

Hyuk-soo gives Oh Taek 88 minutes to smuggle him off the island in exchange for the information about Seung-mi. With police checkpoints spread across the island and Hyuk-soo listed as a top-priority suspect, Oh Taek disguises himself using an abandoned police vehicle and drives away in a patrol car.

By coincidence, Soon-kyu arrives at the guesthouse just as Oh Taek is leaving and spots Hyuk-soo sitting in the back seat. He memorizes the license plate and follows them.

Hyuk-soo also insists on retrieving his suitcase, forcing Oh Taek to create a distraction. Elsewhere, Mi-rim frantically searches for Seung-mi by calling her friends, classmates, and coworkers. During her search, she learns that Seung-mi has a boyfriend whose surname is Geum, the same surname as Hyuk-soo.

On the road, Oh Taek asks Hyuk-soo why he chose Seung-mi as his victim. Through flashbacks, Hyuk-soo reveals that he first noticed Seung-mi at Yoon-ho’s funeral. He began following her, and Seung-mi mistakenly believed it was fate because they kept crossing paths. Hyuk-soo initially dated her with the intention of destroying her kindness, but as they spent more time together, he found himself wanting to keep her alive and “play” with her forever.

Still, his murderous impulses never disappeared. Unable to kill Seung-mi, he turned his violence toward others instead. This led him to start the fire at the goshiwon restaurant. Later, Yi-deun unexpectedly appeared, forcing Hyuk-soo to kill him as well.

Seung-mi eventually began noticing strange things about Hyuk-soo after finding his sketchbook out of place in his house. She told Yi-deun about it, and Yi-deun started investigating him. Seung-mi even tried to kill Hyuk-soo herself, but luck remained on his side, allowing him to murder Yi-deun at the hospital.

Meanwhile, the police continue tracking Hyuk-soo’s movements. They discover he walked more than a kilometer from the hospital and stood at an intersection for over 30 minutes, almost as if he were waiting for something. The investigators begin theorizing that Hyuk-soo intentionally chose Oh Taek’s taxi.

Joong-min learns that Oh Taek has left the police station and returns to headquarters. Ji-eun calls Mi-rim regarding Oh Taek, but Mi-rim desperately asks whether they have found Seung-mi yet. Ji-eun quietly holds the photo of Seung-mi that was discovered inside Hyuk-soo’s house.

Later, Joong-min encounters the disguised police car on the road and asks it to move aside, believing it belongs to another officer. At that exact moment, Soon-kyu arrives at the checkpoint and informs everyone that Hyuk-soo escaped using a police vehicle. Joong-min suddenly remembers the license plate of the car he just saw and immediately orders officers to search for it.

A tense chase follows, but Oh Taek successfully escapes the police.

Soon-kyu later contacts Joong-min and reveals that Oh Taek has his phone. Although the police cannot track the device, Joong-min sends Oh Taek a message, urging him to surrender Hyuk-soo and promising they will safely bring Seung-mi home. The police now understand that Hyuk-soo kidnapped Seung-mi to blackmail Oh Taek.

As the episode nears its end, Oh Taek steals another car. While transferring Hyuk-soo’s heavy suitcase into the new vehicle, he suddenly remembers a story his friend once told him about a murderer transporting bodies inside suitcases. A terrifying thought crosses his mind — what if Seung-mi is inside?

Desperate for answers, Oh Taek demands that Hyuk-soo open the suitcase or he will refuse to continue helping him reach Mokpo. Hyuk-soo calmly gives him the combination code.

The episode ends the moment Oh Taek opens the suitcase, his face frozen in horror.
