An 81% detention rate, a rigged courtroom, a boy who won’t leave without his friends, and a trap Sarah has been setting all along.
Spoiler warning: this recap covers the whole episode, including the final scene.
“Chokepoint” aired Friday, October 30, 2026, on USA Network, and The Rainmaker Season 2 Episode 3 is where the detention-center story stops being one boy’s problem. Rudy Baylor (Milo Callaghan) and Deck start with a single judge’s numbers and end up staring at something huge, while Bruiser (Lana Parrilla) gets squeezed from two directions and Sarah Plankmore (Madison Iseman) plays a very risky game. It’s a crowded episode. Here’s the full recap, then what I thought.
The 81% Number That Starts Everything: The Full Recap
Judge Halloran and Harrowsgate
The episode opens with Deck and Rudy going through records from Harrowsgate Systems (HGS) and its role in the juvenile detention business. Rudy shows Deck something ugly: Judge Rory Halloran, who works with HGS, has sent 81% of the children in his assigned cases to detention centers since 2021. The national average is 12%. That’s not a coincidence, and Rudy clearly knows it.
Bruiser’s New Security System
Meanwhile, Bruiser sets up a stack of CCTV cameras around her house and the law firm. Then Tom calls to say his office is being raided. He wants her help even though she’s no longer his lawyer. She goes to meet him and calls him out for lying to her. Tom promises not to do it again, and Bruiser agrees to help.
Rudy Gets Arrested in Judge Halloran’s Courtroom
Rudy and Deck sit in on a trial where Rory is the judge, and it doesn’t take long to see the whole thing is rigged. Rudy confronts Louis, the defense lawyer, for not doing his job to defend the boy on trial. The boy’s mother then asks Rudy to take over, but Rory orders him removed for disrupting the hearing. Rudy ends up arrested and in a cell.
Bruiser comes to bail him out and tells him to apologize to Rory. Rudy tells her what the judge has been up to and flat out refuses. At the bail hearing, Rory threatens to take Rudy off Victor’s case if he doesn’t stop meddling in other cases. That finally does it. Rudy apologizes, because he can’t afford to be kicked off Victor’s trial.
Sarah, Her Father, and a Very Fake Congratulations
A Meeting With the Feds
Elsewhere, Special Agent Kyle Reddick talks to Sarah about the Great Benefit case. He introduces her to Ronan Keene, a special agent from the Economic Crime Division in Ireland. After the meeting, Sarah talks to her father, Leo Plankmore, about the investigation and Drummond’s role in saving the hospital from 15 murders.
Dad’s Birthday Party
Leo tells Sarah to lay low and quit planning her comeback, since the Plankmore family’s reputation, and his own, are on the line. They walk into the house, where Sarah’s mother, Alice, is throwing Leo a birthday party. At the party, Leo learns Sarah is working with Amanda Vonn and offers her a fake congratulations in front of his guests. That one stung to watch.
Piecing Together the Shredded Files
That night, Rudy and Deck go to Louis’s office to dig the shredded files out of the trash. They spot Louis coming into his office late and try to follow him.
Bruiser at Tom’s Interrogation
Bruiser goes with Tom to his interrogation, where the investigating officer, Quinn, accuses him of lying about his ties to the Dixie Mafia. Bruiser tries to negotiate a plea deal, but Quinn wants Tom to flip on Gator and expose him in exchange for all charges being dropped.
Tom thinks about it. Bruiser reminds him he’d have to hide forever to protect himself from Gator. Lynette won’t go along with that, and she and Tom argue about it. Quinn gives them 48 hours to agree and threatens to contact Boone. Then he asks to speak to Bruiser alone, and warns her she’s making a mistake by trying to talk Tom out of the offer.
Amanda and Her Clients
At the same time, Amanda meets her clients, Declan and Liam, to talk about Rudy interfering in Victor’s case. She tells them about his past connection with Sarah and how she’s trying to use Sarah to get to him.
The Firm Pieces It Together
Back at the firm, Deck asks Delphine and Rudy to sort through the shredded documents and put them back together. He also realizes Bruiser is still working with Tom and wonders what changed. She tells him about Gator’s threat, and Deck panics.
A List of 40 Names and a Class Action Idea
Victor Defends a Friend
At the detention center, Victor defends another inmate and clashes with a guard just as Rudy and Dot arrive. Dot asks Victor about his time there, while Rudy asks him to put together a list of every inmate with a connection to HGS. Dot tells Rudy to stop treating Victor like a partner: he’s still a child, and he’s the victim here.
Looking for Luke Huntley
Back at the firm, Rudy wonders whether all the boys Rory sent away are still minors. He remembers reading about Rory sending a boy to detention at age 18 and decides to find him. Deck and Rudy meet Luke Huntley, who works at a ferry toll booth. Luke says he was misrepresented at his trial and believes it was rigged from the start.
After Luke leaves, Rudy and Deck go over the court documents they already have and find nothing suspicious. Rudy wonders if Victor was made to sign a separate document, one they don’t have a copy of. They go back to the firm to look for the admission document among the shredded papers Louis was trying to get rid of.
Tom’s Choice
In the locker room, Tom overhears Boone talking to his parents about making them proud. That settles it: Tom decides to take Quinn’s deal and asks Quinn to guarantee he’ll leave Boone alone. Quinn tells him to bring his lawyer and refuses to negotiate without her.
Sarah Visits Leo Drummond
Sarah goes to see Leo Drummond (John Slattery) at his house, where he’s wearing an ankle monitor. She tries to apologize for the past and brings up the police investigation into Great Benefit. Leo wonders whether the police are trying to use Sarah to get to Amanda. He tells her she has the leverage and should use it wisely.
Gator Comes to the Firm
Back at the law firm, Gator shows up to meet Bruiser and threatens her, telling her to stop Tom from taking Quinn’s deal. Bruiser wonders how Gator found out about the deal and figures out that Lynette has something to do with it. She tells Tom, and he tries to divorce Lynette. Bruiser argues that this would leave him open to spousal privilege issues. Tom is frustrated and worried about Boone and his future. Bruiser tells him that if he takes the deal, Gator will kill her.
The Missing Document Turns Up
That night, Deck, Rudy, and Delphine manage to piece together the paperwork from Victor’s case. Rudy takes the document to Victor, who says he doesn’t remember signing it. Rudy tells him they have evidence the court documents were fabricated.
Victor hands Rudy a list of 40 juveniles who are falsely incarcerated, just like him. And then he says something that got me: he isn’t leaving until every single one of those boys is released too.
Deck and Rudy start digging into everyone on Victor’s list. Bruiser comes back to the firm and realizes what they’re up to. Rudy tells Bruiser and Deck there could be close to 1,000 children falsely incarcerated like Victor, and he suggests turning the case into a class action lawsuit.
Sarah’s Trap: The Ending Explained
Sarah goes to see Amanda and accepts the job offer at her firm. She gives Amanda a letter and asks her to leave her office. Outside, Sarah tells Amanda the FBI and the Irish Garda are investigating her, and that they approached Sarah to help expose her. Sarah asks Amanda to help her get her career back in exchange for her cooperation.
The episode ends with Sarah meeting Ronan and telling him Amanda has fallen for her trap.
My Review: Messy, Dense, and Hard to Look Away From
I’ll admit this one confused me at points, but it kept me interested the whole way through. There’s a lot going on, and not every thread gets the room it needs.
What Works
- Victor’s refusal to leave. When he told Rudy he wasn’t walking out until every other boy was released too, I got emotional. After everything this kid has been through, that’s the bravest thing in the hour.
- The 81% figure. One number does a better job of explaining the scheme than ten speeches could. It makes Rudy’s class action idea feel earned.
- Sarah’s double game. I can’t tell yet whether she’ll pull it off, but she comes across as a tough cookie. The final reveal to Ronan is a great last beat.
- Leo Drummond’s return. I didn’t expect him to look the way he does in this episode, and it was good seeing him again, ankle monitor and all. He still seems to have a soft spot for Sarah.
What Doesn’t
- It’s a lot to track. Between Tom, Gator, Quinn, Boone, Lynette, Amanda’s clients, the FBI, and Victor’s list, a couple of storylines get brushed past.
- Bruiser’s side of things is murky. Her situation with Tom and Gator takes up real time without clearly connecting to the detention story yet.
- Rudy’s apology feels rushed. He caves at the bail hearing quickly, and I would’ve liked a beat more of him wrestling with it.
Where I Think It’s Headed
These are my guesses, not anything the episode confirms. I think Bruiser’s trouble with Tom and Gator will connect to Amanda and her clients, Declan and Liam, who could be tied to HGS. I’m also not sure if Sarah is going to double-cross the FBI and the judiciary by siding with Amanda, and I wonder whether Leo Drummond might come out in support of Sarah if things go sideways.
I’d also love to see Sarah and Amanda team up, even as a trap, as they try to take Rudy and Bruiser down. Most of all, I hope Rudy manages to free every innocent kid suffering because of the greed of rich corporations.
Final Score: 8/10
An intriguing, emotional hour with a strong ending, held back by an overstuffed plot and a murky Tom storyline. Victor’s stand is why it sticks.
